Want to buy a 1000 chip set for cash and tournament options with tournament starting with 25. Is this the best breakdown i can do? Love anyones opinion. 2 table max 18 players

You think you can play a cash game, presumably .25/.50 across two tables, with only 150 $1 chips and 75 $5 chips? No, that won't work well.
I think if you're willing to do tournments starting with the $5 chip, you can pull this off with 1000 chips. If not, not

.25 150
1.00 300
5.00 200
25 180
100 135
500 35

That allows pretty much the bare minimum for .25s, 1s, and 5s for two tables of cash play, and freezeout tournament stacks for 18 players of 10/10/7/1 for 150 bb stacks starting at 5/10

Edit: Actually, if you want to be able to color up your 100s in the tournament, and have enough chips for one rebuy per person, you could do:
.25 150
1.00 283
5 180
25 180
100 135
500 36
1000 36

It is NOT secure for chips to represent different amounts of money at different times (let alone the same night under the same roof), so it's risky to use the same chips for cash AND tournament, unless probably for a single table of childhood friends and family (still, aunts should NOT be fully trusted, IMHO :) ).

Of course, you could use the same chips for cash and tournament, if your tournament buy-ins cost the amount of money they would in cash. That is, a T25-based, T10,000 unit tournament should cost $100 to buy-in if the chips were to be used securely for cash also (with the denominations representing cents).

Other than that, tournament sets have to be top-heavy in terms of denominations, to provide for the continuously rising blinds, whereas cash sets should roughly be made up (for 10 players and maximum efficiency) of
100-200 blinds chips
200-400 workhorse chips (X4 or X5 the previous value)
100-300 value chips (X4 or X5 the previous value)
20-100 huge value storage chips (X4 or X5 the previous value)

Exceptions to those "rules" abound, but make sure to understand why the exist, on the first place.

Yeah im starting to see this isnt realistic. Iv only ever had 1 table at a time but wanted to be prepared. I’ll probably just choose between a cash or tournament set. Thanks guys

I would say it is easily possible if you plan for 1 table cash set and 1 table tourney set. You can do a 1table tournament set with less than 400 chips and a 1 table cash set with 600 (and definitely also with less), so 1000 chips total should be able to cover both a cash and tourney set to cover one table each.

However if you plan to run 2 tables of either tourney or cash specifically on some nights, you probably want more than 1000 total. If its only for rare occasions you can probably get by with adding a few hundred chips to the total to meet the minimum requirements for both options.

Agreed. 600 chips for a 2 table tourney is perfect.
If you choose the right chips, you could get the required amount for a 1 table now, and add on later as needed.

Stick around here long enough, and you’ll have multiple sets for cash and tournaments. :ROFLMAO:

Not actually answering your question, but this could be an option:

If you want to be able to cover 2 tables or either cash or tourney, then you could make it fine with 1200 chips total. The cash part of the set is probably better suited for a single table, but can cover a second table if need be.

Obviously when you are 18 players for tourney (or even 20) or 18 players for cash, most your chips will be in play, but thats OK if you value being able to do it once in a while.

On most nights though, when you are one table, or two short tables, you should have plenty of chips.

600 chip, 2 table tourney (up to 20 players):

160 x T25
160 x T100
80 x T500
140 x T1000
60 x T5000
Starting stacks of 8/8/4/7/x

This will cover up to 20 players, which is more than you need probably, but good to have just in case.

That leaves you 600 chips for a cash set.

600 chips is stretching it for 2 tables for a cash set, but if you play 1 table most of the time it will be totally fine and you'll be able to use it for a 2 table game as well if need be.

for a 25/50 cent game I would probably do:
200x 25c
200x $1
160x $5
40x $20

$50+$200+$800+$800 = $1850. Thats 37 buyins of $50.

Yes 1200 is probably the best option but my cash games play pretty small. We play .25/.50 but most people buy in with $20 and $50 max so i could probably get away with less $5’s and if its the same set i already have $25’s from the tournament side. I might just do 1000 and if i ever have 2 tables of either i have bigger sets for just cash and just tournament i just hoped to get it all in 1 with what will be my favorite set. “43mm royals” when they drop

While there is obvious logic behind separating cash and tournament sets the importance of security is relative. I have been playing with the same group of guys for almost a decade weekly and there is not much concern for security for me. Additionally, we play .25/.25 or .25/.50 and so few $25s get on the table that they would be easy to identify if one slipped on the table. It just isn’t much of a concern at some tables.

I actually made a set just like this as a backup set. .25/.25 cash plus 25 base tourney at 1000 chips.

This is something like what I would do (give or take how your cash game runs and how you run your tournaments):

1,000 chips…

25 150
1.00 250
5.00 150
25 100
100 100
500 50
1000 150
5000 50
