So my mixed casino set has filled out past my original goal of a minimal single table tournament set into a very flexible set that could cover two tables and deep stacks as well as different cash game options. Hosting a casual casino night for 8-10 is in the plans as well. Here's where it stands:

100 x $1
35 x $2.50 (played as quarters in a pinch)
400 x $5
200 x $25
135 x $100
48 x $500

I'm planning on a third rack of $25s to help cover two tables of T1000.

Am I short on $100s? I know the answer is always "moar chipes!" but I can't think of the scenario where I run out of hundreds. Anybody have a better imagination than me?

For cash games, I'm interested in micro stakes at 10% or 1% face value, and maybe some 1/2. If I ever have the money for higher stakes, I'll be able to afford better chips.

Wow, not even one "more chips!" in three days. Things have mellowed.

If you really plan on a full table of 1/2, IMO you need at least another rack of $1s.

Definitely. I don't really PLAN on having cash stakes higher than .05/.10 at any foreseeable point. 5 handed 1/2 is an outside case. I'm much more likely to use the $1 playing craps or roulette during my "casino night wine exchange party" that I'm working on ideas for.

Dunno why you'd think more hundos would ever be needed with 48 x $500 chips in the set.....

I don't really. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Being compulsive about full racks is probably going to be too expensive to stomach anyway. I only have 400 $5s because I picked up 3 racks for $30 when I wanted like 50 chips. I'll listen to the voices of reason on the $100s.

100 hundos should be more than enough (overkill, really). I'd beef up the other numbers: a rack of quarters, and at least two racks of $1's. My games play small, and I have three or four racks of $1's in each cash set.

EDIT: Just reread the OP, and see you plan to use the set for tounaments too (not a smart idea, imo). Prolly need 200 x T25, 200 x T100, and 100 x T500 for that (if wanting to keep it full even racks).

It's mostly tournaments. I've never actually played a single hand of cash game poker. It's definitely not simultaneous cash and tournament on two tables using overlapping denoms (which I agree is not smart).

Even racks don't bother me, so what's the actual numbers for T1000 to T3000 tournaments in what scenarios? Your opinion is about as good as it gets around here, so I'm interested to hear it.

I'm sorry if I seem vague, but I'm working on keeping it flexible for the long term, so I don't want to narrow things down too early in the thought process. All the points about proper 1/2 cash breakdowns are really appreciated even though I'm dismissing them as unlikely.

I decided to get enough $100s to get over 150. I also did pick up a rack+ of 25s from the Black Friday sale. Got the last of Jim's Aztar Primary $500s, a small amount of his stash of Primary $100s, and a quick BF grab of P-A-D $25s all coming soon I hope.

Crazy scenario that needs that breakdown: Full Rack T3000 tournament, 8 handed

40 x T5
40 x T25
18 X T100
1 x Bounty
1 x Show 'em

T500s can cover 8 rebuys, if color ups are ignored. And why color up when mountains of chips are the obvious goal.
