Hi all, I’m sure I could put in effort and figure this out myself, but I’d rather use the hive mind bc I know many of you already know the answer:

I am helping to sponsoring a charity poker event for our school PTA. Pre COVID we had approx 50 players and 100 rebuys. And we used the Bicycle plastic chips. It was painful.

My questions to ballpark whether I should spring for a custom set:

A) approx how many chips would I need for the above number of players/rebuys? What breakdown would you suggest? I assume rebuys would be higher denoms, but tell me what I think.

B) what’s the cheapest I can get a custom set - eg with the school mascot on it.

You can probably do a 5 table tourney set with about 1700-1800 chips. Least cost for full custom would probably be card mold ceramic from China.

Just decide on your structure and total number of rebuys. With 5 tables you will probably need 5 denoms.

If you're doing a T5k starting stack with blinds starting at 25/50 , you can run something like this:
25 x 8
100 x 8
500 x 2
1000 x 3
=5K stack.
Build 60 stacks like that resulting in:
T25 (480 pcs)
T100 (480 pcs)
T500 (120 pcs)
T1000 (180 pcs)

That gives you 50 players to start, and 10 rebuy stacks using the same chips.

The next 60 rebuys, use T1000 x 5.
T1000 (300 pcs)

The last 30 rebuys, use T5000 x 1
T5000 (30 pcs)

With those amounts, you have a bare minimum of:

T25 - 480 chips
T100 - 480 chips
T500 - 120 chips
T1000 - 480 chips

T5000 - 30 chips

I would suggest getting at least 70 more T5000 chips. By the time you get to your final table, with 150 buyins of 5k stacks, you would have 750k on the table.
100 5k chips
250 1k chips covers that amount.

You can use the additional 5K chips to colour up as players bust out. This gives you a good starting point at least, to build something useful.

That is awesome, thank you so much for the info. Exactly what I was looking for.

Anyone have an idea on Where is the best place to get these chips?

ABC is a good source with a relatively quick turnaround time even with customization. If you order over 1,000 chips they give a pretty good price break to get you around $0.85 per chip.

ABC's sister site www.brpropoker.com gives you the option to go semi custom on a stock design. I love mine
