Does anyone know what it takes (min, overhead, etc) to order a custom Matsui or BG set? BG chips are my absolute favorite, but I assume it's not possible under GPI. What about with Matsui? I'm thinking of tourney chips, preferably with oversized denoms and plaques. I love my Zen set. I wish I'd gotten a piece of the Matsui WSOP replica GB.

I've accumulated >15k chips, mostly Paulsons, many that have appreciated considerably. I'm finding that I really like plastic chips - Bud Jones, Matsui, and BG. I'm thinking that I may be inclined to sell chips/sets to fund a large custom order. Really all I "need" is to keep a Paulson cash set and a nice custom plastic tourney set.

Possible under $5k? $10k? $25k (yeah, right - even with a group buy).

i love Bud Jones chips, but i found Matsuis to be far too slippery and difficult to handle for my tastes. if i could get custom Bud Jones S2s or V7s i would absolutely do it, but at the moment i'm left with only the possibility of semi-customs through relabeling. but if you dig your Zens, i say go for it. they are gorgeous chips.

pokersepp on ChipTalk got some custom Matsuis a few years ago and i know he's done at least two add-ons. see the original post here.

Custom Matsuis I know you can do, but Bud Jones? Don't think you can do those custom. Also, money. They're pricey chips, so if you can swing it, more power to you.

From the one time I played with BG chips in London, I really really liked them.

I'd love to put a set together of them, but wouldn't know how.

I have a set of Matsuis, and while I love the plaques, I am not a fan of the chips. Doubt I'd ever sell them though, because I don't know if I'd ever find a way to replace them.

You won't be able to get your own custom BG chips. Our best chance was a few years back when the French chippers were trying to get a group-buy going, but in the end nothing came of it. I've read that in the old days you might have been able to get a custom set, provided you knew the right people and/or paid handsomely, but that was pre-GPI... Getting used casino BG chips is possible though, which I suppose one could relabel if so inclined, but even they are pretty rare. I have two kinds of BG sets, jetons/plaques and the plastic chips.

With Matsui the custom route is very easy and you just need the money, but the level of quality isn't quite the same (especially so with the plaques).

If money is no object, the closest you can get to BG is probably Abbiati (www.abbiati.it), and they do custom orders to boot. I don't own any of their chips though, so can't comment on the feel/quality, but I know two chippers ordered custom plaques from them:

While I may agree with Matsui's feel and look. The sell for me are the plaques. They're just unbeatable in my mind and really complete a set in a way no other chip company can.

Wish I had done my research earlier. I just lived in Italy for 3 years and moved back to the states this year. Would have been nice to check them out. Then again, the dollar is strong now.

In pictures the Abbiati chips always look a bit sloppy to me compared to BG and Matsui, if that makes sense. But better see them in person and get a feel for them too... Abbiati plaques seem nice, pretty close to BG with wonderful (and pricey) customization options, and the recessed center really makes a world of difference (smooth Matsui plaques cling to each other). Maybe Abbiati can send you a few samples if you contact them regarding pricing, if not you should be able to find them on eBay etc.

You can always mix & match of course, like get the chips from Matsui and plaques from Abbiati... :)

@mipevi did you get prices from abbiati? i messaged them re: per chip prices and minimums and never heard back.

@jbutler no I've never contacted them personally, just seen some prices listed on the blue wall (now out-of-date of course).

ballpark?
It's been a while since I looked at them... IIRC the penalties for low amounts are kinda absurd, but if you purchase a good number of all denoms it evens out. I'd expect around $2 ea for chips and $20 ea for plaques minimum, but that's just a guess.

gotta get me some of them samples...i might be into this.

I checked them out first before settling on Matsui. I don't know about the chips since I didn't inquire for them but the plaques are $23 ea, with a minimum of 100. $17 for Matsui plaques is expensive enough, but $23 for Abbiati plaques? No thanks.

But with Abbiati plaques you can get the casino look of lace filament and lunettes, and they handle so much better... Worth the difference in price IMO.

i like bud jones v7 over all the other plastics. i have a small set of maximillions and they are pretty fun to play with.

i have a set of matsui wsop chips and though nice, it's not the same as asm's or paulson's. it's not the same feel nor sound. that goes for the v7's as well.

i hang on to my matsuis cause though i slightly regret buying them, i'd regret selling them even more.

So Matsui sells to the home game market? Their website is not set up for quick and easy ordering, I assume

if a home game host like me wanted to order something from them I would just e-mail and we would go back

and forth until we arrived at a quote, order and delivery. Anyone have experience ordering from Matsui? I

would love to get my mitts on their decal plaques or their one color hot stamp chips.

It's more of a back and forth e-mail, getting the details down, what design, quantity, etc. Sort of like working with a designer. After everything is final, then they send you a quote/invoice.
