I previously was thinking about getting some scroll chips before being educated on how much of a silly decision that would be. I am now thinking about group buys as being a better decision, but also at the back of my head now is designing a chip for myself. I have a decent amount of photoshop experience and enjoy it a lot, but I still am a little rough around the edges with the buying process of custom made chips. If anyone can share some knowledge about what the best way to go about this is I could really use the feedback. Also just a thought of mine would be if there are group buys is it possible to get my design on a group buy specifically for myself, or is that just not how it works?

Also a side note would be that I would like to keep my purchase around 400-450 dollars, getting around 1000 piece set just for casual play with friends. If this seems impossible please don’t be afraid to tell me if my hopes are beyond my budget.

I was new here just a few months ago and learned a lot. The first thing I wanted to do when finding this new and exciting way to burn cash was the make my own custom set. I highly advise against this. I've already made $100+ dollar mistakes with sets for CHEAP chips... don't do it yet. Give yourself time to develop and learn about the hobby. Just like anything, you shouldn't go 0-100 that quick!

Want something unique but affordable?
- Do a group buy!
- Go to BR Pro Poker and order a semi-custom set of chips

Here's what I own from least to most expensive: Desert Heat, 43mm Semi-Custom Tiki Kings (BR Poker), Super Poker World (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/super-poker-world-chips-buttons-official-order-thread.81881/), and Abbiati Cash set.

What I'm currently buying: Matsui's Group buy (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...up-buy-order-thread.96778/page-4#post-2068483)

What I've touched and not bought: Card Molds, DDLMs, Milano's, THC/Paulson/Casino Chips

edit: Regarding your budget - Card Molds or cheap-ish clays are likely the only thing that will get you 1,000 chips for under $500. I highly recommend getting a sample set before doing this because I, personally, do not like the feel of card molds but love my heavy 'clays'. Many members here would disagree with me though. I'd consider a set similar to my Desert Heat set (https://chipcave.com/products/desert-heat-poker-chips)

Welcome to PCF! Check the custom chips thread, there’s a lot of good info on there. Also search cards mold and look at BR Pro ceramic options to see if either of those do anything for you. Good luck.

Make sure to get samples. Card molds samples are not as easy to get as buying directly from a US manufacturer but if you post a wanted pose you can probably come up with a sample.

There is always a GB for Mold or No Mold chips each month that run from $.33 to $.39 per chip for 39mm size,
For $400-$450, you should be able to get a nice set. The sample sets are available to check them out prior to pulling the trigger.

Everybody thinks they want/need 1000 chips in a set. Very few actually do. Define your game, your stakes, your players. Determine an efficient chip breakdown by denomination. Then establish your budget and go shopping.
But what if my 5cent/10cent games grows to $1/2???
