Hi all, I’m patiently waiting for the next cards mold or new top hat and cane mold group buy. But in the meantime I want to be ready when the time comes to pull the trigger, so I have a few questions if anyone can help or confirm.

I would like to get my own design done on a cards mold, so would it be best to have a designer create one? Is this even possible or do I have to go with the stock templates? I have a design that is about 90% ready, but not sure about the dimension needs, file types, resolution, etc… I did everythjng through paint and then uploaded it into the CPC design tool. Any help to get me ready for the next go round, is much appreciated

I would strongly suggest you contact one of our many experienced designers. You need your artwork to be in Adobe Illustrator.

new top hat and cane mold group buy.
Aren’t we all? That doesn’t happen. I mean yeah, it has happened 6 or 7 times, so chances are somebody will make it happen again. But the only “group” aspect to a buy like that is when somebody from the group sells you chips at a 5x-10x markup.
Anyway, the point is if you wait to be included in a hat and cane group buy, you’ll be waiting forever.

Unless The Artist Formerly Known as Tina creates a THC mold on their own ...

If you're not afraid to toy around with Illustrator for a bit (and have access to it, I luckily have a licence through my university though I realize not everyone has the same), it's possible to make mockups. I found base illustrator files on @Eloe2000 's consolidated info post uploaded by Bosco (top post, scroll down a bit) and pantone screenshots on this handy color post by @QuailValley

If you need help with Illustrator I'm happy to assist. I'm preparing for the next cards mold GB as well!

Sorry I just can't help myself ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
This is how I know I never invent a time machine in the future. Because if I did, I'd have all the NAGB chips that I could put in a money bin and swim through. I'm a failure.

Yeah, this is not as funny as you guys think it is. I'm pretty sure he is referring to the new ceramic mold that Tina is coming out with in the next few weeks. Not Paulson chips.

If there is a hat and cane debossed ceramic chip coming from China, then I weep for the future.

If the mold is good, how many chips do you recon we could get on one GB?
I have no Interest if you're asking me. I won't be running a GB for them. When I first heard about this, I didn't think they would get a lot of interest here on PCF, but I may be wrong. I was all for a new mold, but not hat & cane.

Right? And I thought I was annoyed with cards mold . . .
But I’m sure ebayers will do well with this mold.

lol seems to be some opinions on both sides here. Some of us dont want to spend $1000-$1500 to get what we want with out own design on it and the china molds seem to be the most affordable way. Of course they will not compare to a Paulson or a CPC clay design. I also wouldnt be trying to sell it like it was a fake rolex or something, it would be purely for my own enjoyment and home games.

To be clear, I would never belittle anybody for spending less on chips. But this whole idea of “to get what we want” is kinda foreign to me, when what you want is chips you can’t afford (and let’s be clear, I can’t afford them either.) If what people want is exact copies of casino chips, sorry, you just can’t have those. Which is normal - you can’t always get what you want.
But now along comes a vendor that will produce anything with a complete disregard of IP law, and I guess you can get what you want. But I don’t think it’s cool, for a few reasons.

You don't have to spend over $1000 to get what you want. I spent about $400 on my cards mold customs, and I got exactly what I wanted. So it comes done to "What is it that you want?"

Personally, I LOVE the opportunity that we have had around here with the Tina ceramic chips. I also LOVE some of the casino and fantasy chip tributes that we have commissioned her to produce. My budget was pretty small when I first joined here 2.5 years ago, so I bought china clays, and then went all-in on cards mold chips. But eventually I discovered that I really like clay chips too, and I loosened up the purse strings to start acquiring some of them. But I'll be clear, the hat & cane mold on the chips WAS NOT my reasoning for wanting them. It was they way clay chips feel in my hand. The sounds they make when they splash the pot. the sharpness of the edges of minty ones, and the smoothness of casino used ones. Clay chips are a magnificent experience, and it has nothing to do with the hat & cane, other than that indicated they were made by Paulson. And in some cases, predecessors to Paulson. And in fact, many of my favorite clay chips are not Paulson chips with a hat & cane. I love BCC cigar & snifter and I love my Large Greek Key mold chips, as well as quite a few other molds.

To me, the hat & cane on a cheap Chinese ceramic chip is just stupid. But that's just my opinion. Doesn't bother me if someone else loves them. Be my guest. Buy 10.000 of them for all I care. My only disappointment is that I was really hoping for a new Tina mold that was really new. Something original. We've had several other threads on here where other new molds were discussed, and there were some really good ideas. Now that she has chosen to go with H&C, I assume that just means something really new probably won't happen any time soon.

So all I'm really saying is that if what you want is Paulson clay chips, and you think you are going to scratch that itch with ceramic H&C knock-offs, I think you will be sorely disappointed.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I’ve had a nice set of BCC and the real clay feeling is hard to beat. The look, the way they stack, etc. Main reasoning for this post is to get my design ready for whatever the next buy might be. I’ve got a great idea that’s almost ready to go, but need some artwork advice/help. I would love to throw the design into a CPC buy, but I just don’t want to put that much money into it right now to be honest. The design has a lot of colors and would definitely rack up quite the bill from CPC. In regards to what @upNdown is saying about the molds, I agree that a fake Paulson doesn’t appeal ti me either. I like that the cards mold is original and has its own look. Either way won’t ever compare to a Paulson or BCC type chip

Great discussion all around from everyone!!

Not necessarily.

Free (and open source) alternative exist. And from a format point of view, no chips maker I interacted with could not handle a PDF containing the vectors.

you can’t always get what you want.

But if you try sometimes, well, you might find
You get what you need
Ah, yeah

We did sort of hijack your thread... Sorry about that.

Fun fact : in my last home game there was a tournament followed by a cash game.

The tournament was played with my brand new CPC (hotstamp on DieCar mold). My players noticed we were playing with new chips and they like them a lot. Especially the chips enthusiasts.

The cash game was played with SunFly PolyClay chips with thé cards mold. There were 2 experienced players that came for the first time at my home game but who are not really what I'd call a chip enthusiasts. They still directly noticed the difference in material but they also directly say that they preferred the SunFly cards mold because they stacked like bricks, better than CPCs.

NB: I put SunFly in bold because it's important and you'll not have the same with the more generic Cards mold.
