I'm working on a custom cpc tourney set. First off, its not 100% that I'm going to do this. I also can't divulge the artwork at this time which I know "could" affect the outcome of the colors and what not.

The only thing that I can say is that if I do this, it will be on the FDL mold.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be running edge spot mock ups. My plan is to keep it mostly in the Level 1 and 2 category, maybe level 3.

If I move my current tourney set then my budget goes up to 1k-1200. This is for a two table tourney, 650-700 chips.

I mostly prefer a simple, clean edge spot progression. By no means do I think I'm any good at this. Feel free to sound off if they look like shit. Or post any mock ups that contain a simple progression.

Here are the first two I'm posting. The 5th chip in the progression would most likely be the rebuy chip

Not married to these colors or anything. Just messing around.

Denoms:

It will be higher. As of now its not 100% decided.

For now we can go with what I use as our league structure.

500, 1k, 5k, 25k, 100k

assuming 25-100-500-1000 from L to R (1 to 4)? or are you going with higher denoms?

thanks, I knew I forgot something.

Here's my initial suggestion. I went with more traditional color schemes, but also kept it to the muted tones that I think your OP depict.

Trihonda's initial suggestion has some strong potential imo.

Of the two lineups you posted, I prefer 1 over 2, and it's not very close at all (although I do really like the rebuy chip you posted in 2). I greatly prefer x14 to x12 spots. Also - and this is important - single-spotted chips are a leading cause of staph infections. They rank up there with tri-colored quarter-pies in regards to risk of disease (in the case of quarter-pies, it's tuberculosis, but I digress).

A few questions...
  • Are there base colors you'd definitely like to see? Or specific color combos?
  • Do you prefer an actual spot progression for your tournament chips, or a static/consistent spot pattern throughout?
  • Is there a palette you'd prefer to stick to that would match w/your art and/or theme? Muted? Bold? Pastel? Earthy?

  • Do you prefer an actual spot progression for your tournament chips, or a static/consistent spot pattern throughout? I don't know honestly. I'm going to experiment with both :)

I agree about the two sets in the OP. I much prefer #1. I thought I would see what the 12 spots looked like.

Thanks for taking the time. This is a spot progression that I could fall in love with (yes I'm an addict). The color combo's aren't screaming at me.

Here's a couple different possibilities...

Thanks

not a fan of the 314. Looks "alien" to me, lol. Seriously, something out of a sci fi movie (talking the edge spots). I also don't want any dayglo/unweighted base colors. Sunset chips are pretty much dayglo colors.

I'll post some color combo's that I like when I have time.

I've got a soft spot for t sets that all share the same spot.

Thanks

Bright White is to expensive for anything other than edge spots, lol. Otherwise its damn sexy. I really like the Canary/Maroon chip. Very nice. These edge spots are about the point where it starts feeling to busy for me. Looking at your same edge spots and the one that psypher posted. I really think I want edge spot progression.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to help out.

How do you save/post the mock ups that have the edge spots/color details next to it?

A couple of more following @Trihonda edge spot pattern

The 5th chip would be the rebuy chip

thoughts? tweaks to the set as a whole? I'm just starting so I expect to do/see a lot of these.

I like all the color combos on each chip. love the green chip and charcoal chip!

What will the denom's be? and are your chips in order of denom progression?

Very cool! I was having trouble following denom but now it makes sense.

I tend to agree with @stocky regarding a tourney set with similar, if not the same style of spots, rather than a progression. Although, I do think there is a place for a 614 rebuy chip as per post #16. I mean, just look at the success, nay, popularity, of the dice chips with the old 614 - 'nuff said. ;)

I understand you are not after 'busy' spot patterns either and I think the 414 could be the best of both worlds. Where the 314 seems to beg for another spot, the 614 might look crowded for your taste. I have done up some 414 colour combos (see below), which are in no particular order, but one or two may jump out. With the same pattern, you don't have to worry about progression either. I really liked Stocky's purple/arc yellow. I reckon you have some good colour combos going on, especially the blue in the second line-up, post #13.

Can't wait to see where this goes.

Bill, do you really want a T500-T1000 chip progression? I'd advise just starting with the T1000 and be done with the whole 2x thing: 1000 - 5000 - 25K - 100K - 500K

Second question: are the inlays going to be white? White vs black vs color-matched will affect chip base/spot color selection.

I'll work up some colors and post this afternoon.

The problem is, these are all level 3 chips. I'll be getting 650-700. As much as I like this. It's out of my budget

All Level 2 mate. 414 and 614 are Level 2 on the CPC site. :) @ 1.92/chip, just over $1300 for 700.

Still not sure if i like a progressive spot or all the same. Good thing i have some time

If your heart says spot progression, then there should be little else to consider. Your Sunset chips are all the same (solids) so progression changes it up significantly. While I appreciate same-spot sets, differing spots scream true custom.

Here is another that is different. If money is a big deal, then why not go solid? Solids are always sexy. Anyway, given your rules, no non weighted, level 1 and 2, no 314...

request impurities on the rebuy spots for no charge I think.

I will most likely go with a progressive spot set. However, there are some damn near geniuses on this site when coming up with this shit. I won't rule anything out.

I'm leaning between a T100k , a T1,000,000, or T2,000,000 tourney set. The 5th chip (or plaque, haven't decided yet) will either be for color ups or rebuys

If I do 100k (which fits with in my league structure) what denoms would you suggest? I'm not married to 500 and 1k denominations. Just what I'm used to.

This is for a 20 player tourney with rebuys. My budget for everything is $1300.00. If I go with plaques 100 of that will be dedicated to 20 plaques. Anyway we can make this a 650 chip purchase?

The inlays are white. There is rolling text on both sides if that matters.
