I’m just curious to know how many people here actually consider the resale value of their custom chips when they are creating them. As a custom guy myself I have never ever considered that at all. After following another thread I was surprised to know that many people actually consider it.

My Sunsets are personal to me, so no.

When I designed the bourbons I did keep in mind about potentially reselling them.

There are almost no situations in which customs (non paulson) would hold resale value anywhere close to their purchase price with the exception of some hall of fame sets, scarce group buy chips and older BCC and TRK customs. IMO customs should be very carefully ordered as forever sets, or expect to lose like 25-50-% of purchase price

Unless they're produced in a huge quantity with sales to others in mind, I'd be really surprised if anyone really considers resale value. They're usually so personal that the resale market is extremely limited.

I have been thinking about the subject, but only hypothetically and after the sets were made.
There aren't many custom designs that are so popular that they would retain any value close to what it cost to have them made, and I'm fairly certain mine are not among those. Not even the Hels.

The plan is to make good use of them myself, and one hopefully distant day they'd become heirlooms.

I purchased a set of custom chips - Suicide Queens - because the set was almost everything I was looking for in a custom set. The lack of personalization helped the resale. I’m pretty sure I got them for less than it would have cost to reproduce them.

I also won a raffle for another set of customs - Iron Bank - which once again lacked personalization and had wide appeal.

There are a few other custom sets I would consider buying as well if they were offered for sale - Pillage & Plunder and Colony Club come to mind.

Since I don’t have blood, sweat, and tears invested in my custom sets, I could envision selling them someday.

Not for a split second. Plan to pass all of mine down to the kids.

I hope my kids will like poker as they grow up. They love to play with my chips now.

Technically I will have 4 custom sets (1 for each kid). Hopefully one of them will like limit, 1 tournament, and 2 will like big bet games :nailbite:

I think by their nature, custom chips are created to be different than ALL the other options out there, and to be very personal. With that in mind, I don’t think any person that orders custom chips has anyone in mind for the chips but themselves (or their family/friends).

My thinking is that the people that end up making a custom CPC set is not considering resale value (if they did, they likely wouldn't make the set in the first place).

The people that are hesitant to order a custom CPC set, might be more worried about resale value, and that is one of the reasons why they are not pulling the trigger on a CPC set.

The fact that you basically have free insurance when buying Paulson chips certainly make them more appealing for the average guy. The added fact that you can keep trading your set for abother when you grow tired of it is another big factor. With CPC sets you are "stuck" with the set. They are harder to sell/trade without taking a substantial hit, and for the people who actually end up buying a custom CPC set they will probably consider them to be forever sets.

Interesting topic. What would the going resale rate be for a 1000 chip set of CPC customs without inlays Never used.

Dibs on the Suicide Queens :)

Once they are all of age, I only see one logical solution.

4 handed freezeout deepstack tournament. First place gets first pick, second place gets second choice, and so on....

I have four total sets planned as well. One cash, one tournament (can be flexed as a cash set if number values dictate cents), and another separate theme with cash and tournament sets planned. Have one kid, planning on calling it quits after two. They each get a tournament and a cash set. Simple.

Not zero thought, only minimal thought of what NOT to do. My first set had my name on it.

My customs are primarily an attempt to accumulate the perfect set for my purposes. Perfect = look the way I like, in the quantities I want to be able to spread anything. It’s been a plus that I’m able to add on when I wanted.

Whether anyone else would want any of my sets is unknown. But they are my taste, not designed for anyone else’s taste.

Never crossed my mind...but with hotstamped MGK's I think I did good :) (resale value wise)

Never selling either

If you're worried about resale best to buy someon else's set. My customs are the last chips i would sell.

The customs I’ve been designing are with the intention of just being for me, never going to sell them so wouldn’t even consider it. And like you the idea of resale value for CPCs has never crossed my mind.

Frankly though I also don’t think much about the resell of used casino chips either. Must stuff I buy I buy to keep forever, unless it can help someone else more than me. It all works out in the end.

Inasmuch as I've assumed no resale value on customs, while considering designs, costs, and whether or not to go for it, I guess the answer is technically yes. But really my position is that I wouldn't be reselling customs if and when I finally pull the trigger.

Get your checkbook in shape for those two, bucko! :cool You seem to be developing excellent taste in your dotage!

Seriously, I luckily had the foresight -- and instant chip lust -- to ask Puggy for two racks of Colony Club quarters in his order, which was very graciously granted -- and they're by far my favorite fracs ever.
