Crazy slow roll (2 Viewers)

I don't understand the depth of the hostility toward Kassouf. Yeah he's obnoxious and annoying, but that doesn't exactly make him unique amount poker players.
And if Helmuth and Matusow are capable of sitting at the table and playing civilly with him, what makes so many people here think they couldn't handle it?
Is it possible we've just seen highlights of the worst of the worst, and that he's actually unobtrusive the majority of the time?

See first bolded portion for why lots of people think he's a C U Next Tuesday.

See second bolded portion for exemplars of similar douchebags to Kassouf.

This.

Anyone who knows me or has played with me quickly finds out I'm polite, almost always the quietest player at the table and can take plenty of shit without it phasing me. Only twice in my life have I been so annoyed by anyone at the table that I couldn't help but to comment or leave the game entirely.

First time was in a tournament at PH where it took the better part of 45 minutes of a jackass never once even stopping to take a breath at a table where no one acknowledged a single thing he said before finally throwing a flippant comment in his direction which turned into a heated three minute back and forth that I'm not particularly proud of at which point he was moved to another table. Second one was actually the last night of a meetup where a jackass local I'd been stuck with pretty much all day through tourney and cash finally pushed me over the edge... that time simply leaving early at 10pm without a word about it seemed like the best play.

But this guy, holy shit. I'd be calling for an immediate table change and still wouldn't be able to resist telling him to shut the fuck up.

I've never met Fink but this is a spot on self description of what kind of person I believe you to be. It's hard to comment or get rattled by others when you are doing calculus in your head and checking the other player's stacks for error chips.

Nothing tilts me more than playing with a chipset that uses all spot patterns that just never produce those lovely errors :D

I feel like I'm watching a feed from Truman's House, with a hand between @guinness and @jbutler.

Not the sickest slow roll ever. BBotB5, early in the week. JButler and I get it all in on the flop in a PLO session. $600 pot (about half the size in the video, but we're playing .25/.50)

The board runs out, I table half my hand: I just have trips
butler: I have a boat
me: Oh, I have a bigger boat
butler: wait, I have quads

Did you watch that video? It was painful. There's slow rolling, and then there's "Look at me! I just won an Academy Award! You all really love me! I'm so special!"

During the hand though, I was amazed. There's no way I could flop quads and keep yapping away like nothing happened. And then he actually tells everyone I FLOPPED QUADS! No way could I ever do that.

Nothing beats Guinness slowrolling and then nutter buttering Nick, when Nick had no idea that the slowroll and nutter butters were on. God, I wish we filmed that.

After watching it, I don't see why it's so bad. He's not sitting there and tanking and then finally calling. He's a motormouth and the table appears to be having fun. I don't think the guy with 88 is even upset. Technically it's not that great a slowroll per se - he talked about it and hammed it up so much that most of the table was expecting it at the end.

The way I look at it is, if everyone played like him, would poker thrive or die?

Hint: It would die.

I agree. It goes beyond friendly banter to just straight up annoying. He will say it's part of his strategy. But now it's just his shtick

Saying that though. This video is the first time I've thought it was almost not as annoying as usual. As the table we're drinking and slow rolling too. In the WSOP I think his stalling tactics were/ are a lot more annoying and bad for poker than just his blabbermouthing.

Yeah table talk is one thing, but the endless delays are another. You've got X number of people sat around a table wanting to play poker, and they can't - or rather they can, but they're looking at hands per hour going down drastically. Much less interaction, much less opportunity.

If everyone did what he did (and I'm just talking about stalling here), nobody would watch and nobody would play.

This. I don't give a fuck about the slow roll, has nothing to do with my dislike of the guy.

Seriously. STFU and play. If it's your action, then act. If it's not, then don't interfere with other players when action is on them. It's just rude and disrespectful.

Regardless of the stakes, it didn't strike me as that serious a game. I think you'd be horrified to play in our home games up here. It's 50% social/party 50% poker.

Nah, I enjoy (and contribute to the) table banter as much as the next guy. Short of grinding in a real casino, I wouldn't play if it wasn't a fun environment.

But there's a time to yak, and a time to act. The yak never stops with this guy, and he forces the entire table to play at the pace of his choosing. Disrespectful.

Good to know

I like slow rolls. But trying to balance that versus getting beaten up is tricky

I'll normally ask if everyone is ok with them. Specially playing circus games. In NLHE. Seems no one likes a slow roll

Why? What do you get out of it? Its a (insert rude word here) of a move. Why would you go out of your way to be labeled a (insert rude word here)?

I just don't get why anyone would plan to go to a game with the express mission to be a (insert rude word here). you just dont ever get invited back.

Just dumb...

If you'd played with Matt you'd realize he's a fun talkative guy who has a good time at the table and who makes everybody around him have a better time - and not just by passing out all his chips :p

It's a douche move at a casino. Home games can be a whole different thing.

If i'm playing with a bunch of people i dont know, of course i'm not going to slow roll.
If i'm at a meet-up and i don't know everyone at the table, i'll ask if they are ok with slow rolls. If not no big deal.

I've found the Circus games are great fun and slow rolling your friends can be fun too.:)

If on the other hand your playing NLHE and everyone at the table is tense Then slow rolling would just make the table worse and add an element of hostility.

Theres a time and place for everything.

And NO i don't go to a game with the express intention of slow rolling, but now that you say that, I accept the mission!!

And......

As my wife points out when i make an inappropriate joke at a work event.

Know your audience.

Your welcome. Consider it a loan. :sneaky:

Fair enough

I suppose its one of those things i don't agree with ever. The move is to humiliate the opponent. You make them believe they won the pot then you take it off them.

I cant see a scenario where if it was done to me where I would reply with "wow that was clever well played I like you"

Maybe its just me. Maybe there's something here i don't understand about how this could be funny. Maybe i just need to take a spoonful of concrete and harden up.

I dunno...

I suppose if there is consent at the table there's no issue. OK I get that bit Carry on! :)

Unless you're very good friends with the opponents. Then it's just turning up the ribbing to 15.

We'll just agree to disagree. There are plenty of ways to bust your buddies chops. I see no need to stoop to slow rolling. We had it happen one in our home game a few years ago. The offender got read the riot act and nobody has pulled that since.

Its probably related to my soccer playing days and approach. Play hard. Beat there brains out during play. But you CAN do it in a sporting manner.

Its happened a couple of times in our group, but never intentionally.., its more a matter of a misread hand. And the offender is always apologetic.

remind me never to come to your games.

Every social home game I play in slow rolls. Every public game I play in I do not slow roll. In the social games, there is great pride to pulling off an unexpected slow roll.

JButler managed to slow roll me 3 times in a row at BBotB7. I really thought I won all of them. It was pretty funny.
