A lot of the special off menu type chips are really done as paid favours.
They are often incredibly complex, and cause a lot of frustration for the workers making them. They also take a lot of time away from regular orders. *IF* they accept a special request, it's usually for a small number of chips. It it's something that they predict will have a high rate of failure, they may accept taking an order with the acknowledgement that potentially NONE of the chips you request may end up being made. In effect, paying a high amount for nothing.
Also, I imagine the asshat clause comes into effect.
I've been constantly scouring custom chip set pictures, from ASM days, to find a 3U spot, but have not been able to find anything. I have seen some casino chips that have the 3U but that is it.
My chip on the right was hand made by JimB of ASM way back in the day. It's a 6U pattern. I was stunned when he offered to make it for me, since I had asked for the 3U pattern on my $1 chip, and was denied, based on it not being available for use. Since it was a very small number of these $100 chips being made, he did it for me as a massive favour.
If anyone has a 3U chip in their collection, let me know. I would love to add some to my card cap rotation!!
