Hello everyone!

Hopefully this is the right area to post this. I am very new to the custom poker chip world but was wanting to design a custom chip set. The first advice I received on here was "Samples, samples, samples"... So I took the advice and ordered samples! Anyways, just received a set of samples from CPC yesterday and opened the box and was less than impressed with the QC on the finishes. The finishes on the colors seemed less than perfect - almost dirty. But the chip themselves weren't dirty. Some just seemed worn on the edge molds. My question to you all is - is this normal? Maybe sample sets are just the "imperfect rejects" that are sent out just to give an idea on color? Maybe this is what true handmade clays are supposed to look like and I'm just a noob and don't know what I'm looking at? I'm not sure, but was hoping for a little input here.

I already put color label stickers on what I considered to be the "bad side" of all of the chips, so I attached a couple of pics of the "good side". It's hard for my cell phone camera to really pick up all the imperfections, but you can get an idea. Anyways, thanks for your help here - just want to make sure that my expectations are managed correctly.

The A-mold has a rough finish (I don’t care for it) but that rolling edge does not seem quite normal.

Yeah. You need to do afew things to remove the dust from the chips and make them pop. First, take a soft toothbrush and lightly brush the chip. Second, and most importantly, take a face cloth oiled by pouring some mineral oil in your hands, rubbing your hands together and wiping them off on said cloth. then use that cloth to oil the chip. it will make it pop. in thecase of the darker colors almost changing them completely. Never use too much oil. a little goes a long way. Its why I suggest wiping your hands on the cloth and not direvctly applying it to the cloth.

Certain molds you can skip the toothbrush. Me personally, I love HHR and find it removes the dust from the nooks of the horse's head.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I had read a bit on chip maintenance/upkeep, but I was just expecting it to come good to go from CPC.

The other weird thing is the scratches and build-up on the sides of the chips. These three are the worst of the lot, but 3 out of 35 isn't great. And I don't think these would look great even after oiling and tooth-brushing them.

Anyways, not that any of this is y'alls problem... I was just curious how normal this was and if this is something to expect in a "finished set" from CPC.

Thanks!

This is what the finish should look like. Smooth and a little dry, no scratches.

Yeah. The scraping on the rolling edge is NOT indicative of a typical CPC chip. I’m thinking because of the costs involved Classic uses these chips for color samples in order to keep their own costs down. I’d look past the edge and use the chip strictly for mold feel in stacks and it’s intended purpose, color representation. I’ve never seen a chip like that shipped to a customer as a finished product.

Thank you guys! Good to know I'm not crazy but also this is not what I should expect. Being new to all of this and new to CPC I just didn't know what to expect but glad to hear this is not indicative of their finished products. And I planned on emailing David if need be, but wanted throw it on here first and make sure I wasn't making a something out of nothing.

Nope, you're not crazy. What you got there is definitely not normal.

I think you did not get new or normal wear chips (unless they were casino used chips, but hard to think that in a color sample)

As a reference, these are 23 yr old CPC chips storaged correctly and played a couple of times.
