So I spent about 3 hours today designing a set using cpc designe site. Probably should have done it first, but after I looked at the prices. Guess I was naive, but I was suprised to see my what seems basic design would cost 3-4$ a chip. I havent sent over my saved set design yet, but it made me think it might be better to peice together a used paulson set. Anyone order from CPC and have an opinion?

If you are looking for a quality custom chip that will last, I would recommend CPC all day long.

Yes, the cost might not be the least expensive option, but you are getting a totally customized chip. I don't think I've seen any complaints about CPC.

This is not a paid endorsement and I have purchased one set from them.

$3-4/chip? Ok, admittedly for all the bells and whistles, yes.... but for most chip sets, you can get decent options in the under $2/chip realm...

My first CPC set (tourney) was around $2/chip avg. My second set, I went all out, spared no expense, got shaped inlays, high level spots, premium colors (daylong and bright white), a more expensive mold, and I was at $3/chip.

Worth it? Hell ya! Especially considering the costs of Paulson chips these days.

But I empathize with you. Sticker shock is real, when you’re not used to it.

Very nice! Did you use the designer tool and just send them the link?

I have 2 sets and love them both. My tournament set is almost all (900 of 1000) level 1 & 2 so the average cost ended up being about $1.75 per chip. A great value for a custom tournament set in my opinion.

My cash set I went with a lot of level 3, 4, & 5 spot chips so it was a lot more expensive overall but it was worth it to me.

Since we sharing pics :D

3 to 4 sounds like you went down the MD50 road! :ROFLMAO:

I wanted a MD50 set, but I wanted to limit the damage, so I went retro and kept everything L1 and L2. I also broke my order into three. Tournament, cash, and add-on. Order everything at once if you can, but splitting it up is definitely an option.

ill have to double check my saved work. Change stuff around. Def want to order 1000 set. And a single order.

do they offer the ”sparkle” style clay like the rounders set has? I didnt see that.

And the correct term is "brass flakes". :) All weighted colors have them. None of the day-glo and unweighted colors do.

There are a lot of CPC spot patterns that fall between L1 and L5 which are very awesome and only command a price between $1.60 to $2.49 for inlaid chips, provided your base colors aren't day glo or bright white and you use their basic "A mold".

Just play around with the design tool until you find a less expensive combo to your liking. :D

And just to help you understand the pricing, this is a labor intensive process. All those edge spots are punched out of the base color clay blank by hand, and then replaced with the whatever color inserts you've requested.
So if you look at @Rhodeman77 black $500 chip pictured above - after they punch 8 spaces out of the black clay, they're filling each of those spaces with a little yellow nub and a little grey nub. So that's like 16 steps right there - all by hand.

CPC is awesome, great chips. If you are going to spend money on chips, get them exactly the way you want them.

Get samples so you can see the colors, you may want to also get different molds to check the feel and texture.

Clink the link in my signature to see mine, if you want.

Have fun. You can also try making some of the chips more simple and spend the higher price on the ones that will be your work horse.. My $1 chip and $5 are that for me.

is this a desirable feature? I see these flakes alot in 100 chips.

So I'm forecasting a 2 cents or 1p raise for 2019, 2018 was 3 cents or 2p raise in price. The only possible way of delivery to my country is by USPS Small Flat Rate Boxes, up to $200 per box of chips insured in 100 chips. Spragg told me this. I need to mix Tier 2 to Tier 3 edgespots in case of a raise in 2019 or just go with Tier 1 completely, in A-Mold or Horseheads HHR. Substance over style, after all.

Used Paulsons w/relabel may be relatively seen cheaper than CPC but are still expensive. I personally would not want to spend that much money on (heavily) used chips where also the security isn't that great (someone else could just purchase them as well and relabel them and the outcome wouldn't look noticeably different). So for me there wasn't really an option.

L1-L4 spots, maybe one L5, for the lower denoms - of which you'd order the most amount of chips - give you quite some options while still keeping the chip price on halfway acceptable levels. What's really costly are shaped inlays (which you could circumvent with faux shaped round inlays) and Bright White as base color (either switch to reg White or just use the Bright White for a high denom of which you won't order too many chips). If you were using these features, drop them and recalculate the price, it should reduce by a good amount. Both add relatively little visually, compared to a more complex edge spot pattern, for a very steep price.

I still went with shaped inlays for the $5 and higher denoms of my Club Hel set because I absolutely wanted it and had the money, but could have saved a lot with all-round inlays. My 25c, $1 and $5 chips all ranged around just $2.50-$2.70 and look quite decent, definitely not as bland as the L1 spot 5c chip.
$20 chip was slightly more expensive, the $100 and $500 a lot more ($4.50-$4.80), but the amount of those relative to the total set size was low so it didn't have an impact as big as it appears.

CPC adds brass flakes to increas the weight of the chips. Paulson sometimes adds aluminum flakes as a security feature. Personally, I don't like the look of either one.

What constitutes high level spots? Level 2 & up? Just curious

I think it’s subjective, but for me I think lvl 4+.

I’m certainly not the expert in what constitutes high level spots. What do YOU think makes spots high level?

And I understand we are discussing semantics here.

High level is relative to you. :D

CPC's price list for A-Mold chips with standard inlays based on level: (assumes non-Dayglo colors for the main chip body)

L1 - $1.60
L2 - $1.79
L3 - $1.99
L4 - $2.21
L5 - $2.49

+ $0.25 per level after L5.

IMHO low level is anything L5 or below. Playing around with the design tool I think I've created one as high as L12

See all the price listings here: http://www.classicpokerchips.com/pokerchips/realclay/pricelist.htm

Personally when a chip gets above $2 each they are getting high level/expensive.

I kind of base that on how readily available cash denomination casino Paulsons. There are plenty of sets (RHC) mostly that can be found in very good condition for $2 or less per chip.

To me a custom tournament set was a no brainer since actual Paulson tournament sets available are mostly solids or way out of my price point or cash set (Horseshoe) that are way to expensive for $500 and up chips that even the highest level CPC chips cost less.

And if I played tournaments on a regular basis I probably would have gone with more higher level spots.

Me, I would say level 5 and above. I say that because a large percentage of the spot patterns are lvl 5 and below. I can’t get to the tool to verify that. Generally, pending mold, anything level 2 and above is $2+. I’m not knocking any sets or anything, I was generally curious.

Like others, I try to keep a bulk of my spot patterns at a lower level to save some expense. I’m jealous of those that can use a lvl 5+ spot for the workhorse chip. I wish I could have done that, but you are talking upwards of $4-5 per chip.
