CPC A Crest vs CSQ (1 Viewer)

I have a Rounders CSQ sample set and an Atlantic Club A Crest sample set.

Gut feeling based on the samples is that I like the CSQ mold better. I did notice that the A mold has a bit more texture. Just looking for more feedback from those who have ordered a full set.

I have two sets on the CSQ mold and I really like it. There are some very excellent sets on the A mold but, unless the A mold absolutely fit with an "A" theme, then I would never use it. i do not like the textured look feel of the A mold and i consistently think the look is just never as nice as the a few of the other molds (CSQ, DSQ). Lot of people really like it, though, and make great set out of it. Personal preference, etc.

Good luck!

CSQ is my favorite and A is my least favorite. It is completely down to personal preference.

Get. Samples.

Getting mold samples is a critical step prior to spending big bucks on a custom set.

Personally, I prefer all of the CPC molds that have an outer ring design over those that do not. That would include jockey, diasqr, B-mold, cirsqr, hhr, and A-mold, probably in that order in terms of feel, sound, and looks.

That said, I have three full Burt/ASM/CPC sets, all purchased second-hand -- diasqr, A-mold, and FDL (plus two new racks of CPC-produced scrown mold add-ons). But if ordering a new set, it would unquestionably be jockey or diasqr, although cirsqr is a fine mold, too. Cost would have very little -- if any -- input into the decision.

It is my understanding that the A in the A-crest mold stands for American.

No it's definitely A for Africa  :ROFLMAO:

Sure I get that, but it’s random to the chipset theme. The A feels so prominent that if it doesn’t somehow link up with the design theme it doesn’t sit well with me.
I would argue that the Top Hat and Cane doesn’t link up with most design themes either...

It didn’t sit quite as well with me either at first. But they are less prominent to my eyes and I view them as a generally classy symbol of a gentleman’s game and wealth. If I owned a casino I would do a house mold, but as a collector I am fine with the hat and cane. I similarly view S and L crown chips as pretty universal despite containing a crown because the symbolize wealth and royalty which relate to the cards. Whereas any prominent single letter like the A or the B which are specifically symbols implying some further so prominent in the mold invite questions about the relevance to the theme to me.

This 1000% for the B mold. I don’t think I’ve seen a B mold set where the theme name didn’t start with a B

For the folks suggesting getting samples, I've got this which you could potentially borrow but I want to make sure I get it back(maybe send a deposit and I'll send it back when I get them back?).

It's CPC samples:
-Mold Samples for every mold they make
-Color samples both regular and dayglo(these happen to be on the A mold.
-Rounders sample on the Scroll Mold
-Atlantic H/S Samples on the A Mold
-10 Random Samples on H Mold
-10 Random Samples on CSQ Mold

I personally prefer the look and feel and sound of the A Crest, but the only thing that throws me off is the randomness of the letter A. Several players in my game who don’t even care about chips asked what the A was for.
It stands for “aaaaay” like the Fonz, cause real clay chips are apotheosis of poker “cool”.

I never bought into the idea that a mold must match the theme of the chip. As was mentioned, the top hat and cane doesn't do this, so why do people obsess over it? The A mold represents Atlantic Standard Molding, a high quality product making chips for over 100 years. The B mold is in honor of the former president Jim Blanchard, and who the F cares what the other molds represent! These chips are the bomb! (Another vote for the B mold!) Get samples and pick what you like.
