Curious to hear anyone's experiences (love it, worst experience of my life, meh, etc.) with this. We are looking at a trip to the UK and Paris next year for our 10th wedding anniversary.

I use exclusively for car rentals but I've never booked a vacation package through it.

We tried to book a Disney cruise, but they could not lock in the cabin and only difference was a $50 Costco gift card, so we booked on Disney's site instead. I use them for car rental as well. I tried airfare, found the cost the same and not the same ability to chose seats. I am sure overall it is fine, but if you know exactly what you want, might be best to check individual sites.

Grats on 10, just hit 20 myself, and the presents for her just get more expensive every 5 years ;)

Thanks for the replies so far. We are in the very early planning stages. The appealing part was that hotels and all transportation between cities (air and rail) was taken care of. I'll look into booking them separately on our own. I've never used a travel agency of any kind before so I don't really know what to expect.

When we traveled to Australia, I booked nearly everything myself, but came across a travel agent at a festival and they hooked me up with some great tips and side excursions. I would recommend trying one after you have a pretty good idea what you want, so they don't take a commission on your entire trip or simply book you a standard "American tourist" vacation - unless you like to travel like that. I like to get well off the tourist road, and get into the real culture of where I'm at.

I booked a vacation to Disneyland 3.5 years ago using Costco. We got some cool little bonus things and the price was a little bit cheaper than we could find on our own.

*Full disclosure... I didn't look that hard on my own and I am a Costco employee (we do not get any sort of discount).

One of the biggest misconception of a travel agent is you will get charged more to use their services. This is not always the case. In reality it can some times be the exact same price or CHEAPER due to knowing special promotions or using different suppliers best for your region. Some however do charge a service fee, usually a $100 fee but others are 100% FREE! Sometimes that fee could save your vacation when you book that great deal and come to find out that it's a deal because of the remodeling they are doing. What do you mean a JACKHAMMER is not relaxingo_O
I could go on for days but my suggestion is use a professional, NOT Costco, a professional who will answer the phone in the middle of the night to help with a problem if something were to come up. I might be out of line to disrespect Costco, they might answer the phone in the middle of the night. I would ask before I booked with anyone. It's all about EXPERIENCE and CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Also always get travel insurance! It's a big investment and LIFE happens.

I would give you advice on UK but I only sell the Caribbean and Mexico.:p
