Okay, I have to admit not too long ago, I thought most of you guys were sick - for lack of a better word - for owning multiple top-notch poker chip sets. I thought, "Jesus, how many poker sets does one guy need!?" But after silently browsing through the Classifieds section for over three months now (the real reason I believe I can never get off of post probation!) and acquiring my own "Grail set," I can see why so many of you have so many awesome sets. I think there's at least four, maybe way more sets that I'd like to pursue now and only one involves a cheap China Clay route. :bigbucks:

You can never have too many chips!
I used to think that, but my confession is that I have learned that you actually can have too many chips (at least temporarily).

Welcome to the hedonistic treadmill! Have fun building your sets! Regardless of price point it is still fun.

Haha, and Abby kind of ironic that you liked my post because years ago I discovered your awesome Lady Luck Club Version 1 on ChipTalk and then saw you had, at the time, just acquired your Lady Luck Club Version 2 Cali Colors and definitely thought your were nuts when that Version 1 was so effing awesome! Plus I'm extremely biased against the Cali Colors.

It goes a little something like this:
  • Month 1, $100 for little clay/plastic discs? Y'all crazy
  • Month 2, $500 for little clay/plastic discs? Y'all crazy, I'm gonna buy the $100 set
  • Month 3, $1000 for little clay/plastic discs? Y'all crazy, I'm gonna buy the $500 set
  • Month 4, $2000 for little clay/plastic discs? Y'all crazy, I'm gonna buy the $1000 set
  • Month 5, $5000 for little clay/plastic discs? Y'all crazy, I'm gonna buy the $2000 set
  • Month 6, "Honey, I need money for groceries" ; "Shadap and feed the kids McDonald's ketchup packets. I gots ta have ma chippies"
Depending on how much time you spend on PCF, substitute Month for Week or Day...

My kids ask me all the time: "Why do you have so many fricking poker chips?" And, I always tell them, I will stop collecting when one of the following happens:

1. I hit one million chips
2. The floor below where they are being stored, gives way -- and actually when that happens I will move them to the basement where the floor is cement
3. I die -- and even then I am pretty sure there will be more chips in the mail, so make sure you catalogue them correctly

Actually, now that I think about it, if number one happens, I doubt I'll stop getting more, I mean come on, why would I ever want to stop?

more is better. For go the CC route, spend it in something else.
Thought I'd get some flack for that comment. No, it's just for a "burner" cash set, with as much as Paulson quarters go for, I just can't justify dropping $300-$400 on a rack of quarters that I'd like when the CC Pharaoh's are plentiful and cheap, plus I like the idea of sticking to a traditional blue, white, and red set for my non-poker chip aficionado friends. Although that weird CC smell, does that ever go away? I have a sample set for over a year now and it still smells like burnt carpet or something! :wtf:

We absolve you from your sins. As a sign of penance you must participate in the Jack's Detroit sale this coming St. Patrick's Day. In the name of the Full House, the Paul-Son, and the Holy Snapper.
Ironically that's not one of the sets I have in mind, although I'm patiently waiting for a little sample of $5 GOs, $25 GOs, and secondary $100s before making my final decision. And it turns out I AM an over-sized inlay RHC guy! Just seems the Ohio Horseshoes are more vibrant edge spot pattern wise IMO.

Wow, that is some serious lurking!!! Welcome and it is definitely time to make up for lost chipping!! We expect to see 3 real clay sets in the next 3 months!

You know, there is help available out there.

Dr Mike, M.D. at your service. First order of business, start handing me a rack a day until you’re cured.

Don't worry Rhodeman, I know about your epic Tree House chips before your post too! Great set by the way! I guess because of people like you and Abby I'll want to dent my wallet with a CPC set but I just feel it'd pale in comparison to your epic sets.

No worries, for as long as I've been lurking, it definitely seems like we should be past that!

You my friend, are FINALLY seeing the light. It might be the light on the front of the poker chip train running right the hell over your bank account...but I guarantee you...it will end in Valhalla...maybe :D

The AS chips have been cut in half. The mardi gras chips have doubled in size.

I remember a time when you were adamant that more than 1 or 2 sets at a time was never going to happen. VERY NICE JOB CORRECTING THAT PROBLEM MY FRIEND!!

Welcome!

My 2c is that china clays are a waste of time and money.

@Rhodeman77 does this work? Technically only one type of chip, but compared to the mere 620-chips I had at the time of this first post, it has grown and I could easily break them into three sets. ;)

Very nice set!!! Way to go for quality right way.

Now you just need 4 more racks of $5’s to make it playable for 2 tables. :D

They're good for what they're good for. Not everyone can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to fulfill their dreams of owning something better than dice chips :)

My philosophy is spend more or less. I think dice are hardier and won't chip. Dice last a lifetime, better value than CC IMO.

I don't like spending more for something which is lower quality in the sense of how they wear. I advocate for dice level chips or casino quality chips. Even chipco chips can be found for pretty cheap.

If you're using them regularly and longevity is the goal you're probably right. But somehow I don't think 'these things are going to last forever!' is the first thing that pops in someone's mind when their minty Paulson's arrive in the mail :)

Well, don't know what the future will hold for me. Pretty exciting time though with all the new Paulsons coming to our hands between Horseshoes plural, AS and the famous/infamous Boat Chips, Jacks, and who knows what next!?

Oh, but the wifey just today in fact caught a glimpse of what I've been spending the last couple of months so I'll need to lay downlow at least for now.
