Is there a best practice for cleaning stains/mildew/dirt from a vinyl rail?

Damp rag and a little spray cleaner like 409 works for me.

A damp cloth or paper towel works for me, but fortunately I haven't encountered mildew. Before using any cleaner, I'd test it on a hidden spot first (under the rail?).

It can depend on what kind of vinyl it is, but I've found that dish soap is mild enough to use as a cleaning agent.

Make a table with black rails so you can't see how dirty they are.
