A member very generously gave me some Milano $1 chips with a warning that they needed cleaned. I plan on hitting them tonight with a magic eraser...but do any of you any other ways of cleaning a china clay with a sticker label?

Thanks!

Chris

What are you cleaning off? Home game finger gunk? Magic erasers are abrasive, so not the first choice for something like that.

a tiny bit of TSP in warm water with a soft toothbrush. Let dry 24 hours and hit with mineral oil. I use this for all chips. even BJ's, Matsuis and Jetons from Europe. YOu can buy it at Home Depot in the paint section. It removes oils and odours. It works really well.

I'd start with Dawn before moving to TSP or Oxiclean. With the labels, immersion seems like a bad idea. A brush should be safer.

IIRC some of these were badly discolored during manufacturing. Not sure if they were able to be cleaned?

Yeah, there was a batch with some brown coffee-like staining on the white chip material. My take on these chips was solid chunks of greasy gunk stuck to the surface. Happens all the time in the casino, but it's surprise on home chips.

Toothbrush in your future...

Check out the poker podcast thread...

I'm going to venture out and suggest getting a new toothbrush that is a different color than the one you use for your teeth. Then buy a safe and mount it under the counter. When done cleaning the chips put that used brush in the safe to ensure you, your wife or kids DONT EVER USE IT by accident.

Bar-none the most disgusting home chips I've ever seen. Maybe make sure all your vaccinations are up to date before handling these puppies....

After that brush is done, just kill it with fire. I don't think I've seen casino chips that bad...

Hey we've all been there before...dropping some heat and then you realize that you're out of toilet paper. So you use whats handy.

Nice result.... Well done

Thank you sir. Thanks again to The PCF member who gave them to me...he did say they were filthy! I took a chip that had a bad chip in it and broke it in half. I was able to save a label and use it on a chip that was missing a label...can't even tell and the chip looks like new.

Thanks for the pics. Up until I read this the thought of using poker chips to excavate my backyard for an in-ground pool never crossed my mind. I will have to giver a go.

Was he changing the oil in his car while playing poker? Dawn and a toothbrush for me.

A soft toothbrush warm water and antibacterial dawn and:

Look pretty good.

Nice!

I use a nail brush as standard procedure for chip cleaning, along with various mild detergents. More bristles in play than a tooth brush.

Nice results sir

I'm using Diamond Chip Cleaner for all my chips, even the China Clays, and it works wonders. Without it, I'd probably simply use warm water with some soap for my China Clays.

Good result! I'm wondering how many chips did you have to clean like that, and how long did it take you?

Nice add-on touch with the antibacterial Dawn vs the regular stuff. If they sell an anti-virus version, I'd use that too.

Nice results. Second @atomiktoaster on starting with dawn for hand cleaning. Especially with China clays.

Anyone try ultrasonic cleaning on cc's?

Immersion seems like a bad idea, as these labels have been known to peel off pretty easily on their own... soaked, I wouldn't risk it.

And I seriously can't believe there is ANY home game that produced the dirt and grime on those chips... My chips see a lot of use, and they look clean. I've seen casino used chips (used for 3 years 24/7) that looked better. How on earth could Milanos get THAT dirty, unless on purpose as part of some weird chip experiment...?

Lol...no idea...you couldnt shuffle them...they stuck together and could pick a few up at a time with one chip
