The name of the upcoming new Downtown Las Vegas Casino was announced - CIRCA LAS VEGAS.

Derek Stevens (co-owner of D & Golden Gate) seems to be really interested in Las Vegas, both moving forward and its history.

Someone should approach Derek and introduce him to the world of PCF.

Maybe that could lead to a really great CIRCA chip design, and who knows... maybe the dream of easily obtainable $1 racks (and fracs?!?!?) directly at the Casino.

Circa could hold itself out as the home of all poker chip enthusiasts world wide, offer room discounts, special events, etc..

Looks like a cool design with world's largest sports book and alot more.

He already F**ed up the name.......I don't have much faith in the chips.

Since he liked the name 'D' and wanted a luxury place...why not "D-Lux(e)" would have been cool.

When have you EVER seen the word 'circa' used without something after it?

New Casino names that STINK really FROST ME!!! Drew? Seriously? SLS? Really? Catchy.......

Circa really shit the bed on chip choice. Not feeling these at all.
So I’m not like a lot of you...I really don’t think chip A is all that nicer than chip B etc.

But even I think these look f-ing fugly!!!

Circa was adopted from Latin. It means approximately. I don't get it.

From what I've read, its a throwback and hat tip to "older" Vegas. i.e. circa 1957.

Derek Stevens is a pretty big fan of old Vegas and this can be seen in some of his other properties and how he runs them. Circa is going to be 21 and over with under 21's only allowed into one or two restaurants situated in the property. The gaming floor is all about the gambler and gambling. He is very much a hands-on guy (probably the most hands-on in Vegas) and can be found on the gaming floor quite often.

Personally, I like the name.

I spoke with Mr. Stevens at the D right when he was opening the revamped Sportsbook there (last Oct?) I intro'd myself and complimented him on his retro approaches and then asked him about whether there was going to be a poker room in the new casino (which hadn't even been named yet) At first he gave me the old "we're considering it, we'll see," etc. I told him that I and many other poker players were really hoping he would both because it would give us a downtown poker option vs. the GN, and also because we knew he would do it right. After that he opened up a bit, and said they were really leaning against it because of space considerations (??) and he said "I think we're going to let the Nugget keep their status down here." He was polite but businesslike.

That said, I'm not a big fan of oversized inlays, but I *DO* like the font, love seeing Vegas Vicki involved, and think the plaques are awesome. They definitely could have done worse.

Maybe somebody involved in the NAGBs can correct me, but didn’t we learn that spotted THC Paulsons are gonna cost more than a buck a chip? That would discourage a casino from partnering with chippers to be some kind of harvesting Mecca, I think.
Also, like all giant inlay RHCs, I hate them I hate them I hate them. Vineyards much?

That, and the part about becoming a worldwide Mecca for chip nerds......so basically one more tiny convention sized group of people. Naw, I think casino bosses are just going to operate on the proven theory that if you build it they will come and let the one armed bandits and table games do the rest. :D

I don't like giant inlays, but at least these are a bit unique and they didn't settle for some generic RHCs or house molds like some other casinos have in recent years.

Not a fan of giant inlay RHCs, but I've seen far worse chip designs come out of Vegas in recent years. At least somebody put some significant (albeit misguided) thought into the design of this entire set, which is very rare indeed.

The plaques are pretty cool.

Hate the chips, grand inlay.... :wtf:

But the sports book & the rooftop pools looks freakin' awesome. That and the fact that it's a new built property downtown makes it a must stop when/if I ever go back to Vegas.

I stopped in on opening day. the chip is really unimpressive. The label has a slick vinyl feel to it. Makes the chip feel like cheap plastic.

The sports book is crazy huge - kind of like a 3x or 4x height movie screen. Look at people at the bottom of the screen for size reference.

The pool is supposed to be cool, but they wanted $10 just to enter the area - no thanks.

Also, the music on Fremont was stupid loud - shouting at my wife like we're inside a club just walking down the street.
