Pawn Stars’ celeb Chumlee arrested during raid, faces drug & Gun charges During Sexual Assault Raid Investigation
Las Vegas Sun - Mar. 8, 2016

The man known to millions of cable TV viewers as Chumlee on the reality show "Pawn Stars" was being held late Wednesday in a Las Vegas jail following his arrest on felony weapon and drug charges.

Russell, 33, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday. His bail was set at $62,000.

He is facing 19 drug possession charges and one count of possession of a gun by a prohibited person, jail logs show.

Metro Police say they were serving a search warrant in a sexual assault investigation when they discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and firearms in his southwest Las Vegas Valley home.

Russell has not been charged in the sexual assault case. Officer Larry Hadfield, a Metro spokesman, said that part of the investigation stemmed from a recent complaint by a woman, and it is continuing.

It wasn't immediately clear if Russell had a lawyer.

"Pawn Stars" co-star Rick Harrison said, "We don't have details yet but are here to help Chumlee however we can."

A spokesman for A&E Network and the History Channel declined by email to comment.

Russell, who boasts a strong Twitter following and has his own merchandise line, says his personality on the show has made him a fan favorite.

“People can relate to me, and they root for me because on the show I am the dumb guy, the one who is a little rougher around the edges,” he told the Sun's John Katsilometes in 2014. “When people come in the store, they want to give me a hug and say hi. They want to see the Old Man sitting in his chair, they want to talk to Rick about whatever item they have. They interact with us differently … But me, I’m the guy they want to hug.”

Russell had a humble upbringing and had to deal with the loss of his father, who died in 2009 at age 54 of pancreatic cancer, just weeks before the premiere episode of “Pawn Stars.”

Don't know about the assault charges, but the drugs and guns weren't exactly a secret. Seems like that was just a matter of time.

Not really a surprise. If anything, I wondered how the rest of them stayed out of jail when the trafficking in stolen property investigation unfolded.

The story is sketchy and incomplete. I'm interested in the details as they emerge.

No big shock that a pawnbroker would have a gun, but if he's prohibited from possessing it, that can only mean one thing. Drugs and guns together will mean big trouble for him.

That show has run its course, and was largely fake anyway. I've heard they took cash from a watch company to place an inflated value on a watch someone "brought in," and in one episode, a walk-in guy claimed he got a guitar in the 1980s while working with a rock band, Turns out, the guitar was from a Las Vegas vintage guitar shop, and the "customer" was an employee of the shop. Most of the items you see on the show are setups, since they don't have the time to just film random people walking in.

So, like all "reality TV," it's not real. Looks like it's curtains for Chumlee, and for the show, too.

We went there a few years ago (CLB and I). They were setting up a shot where Chumlee backs a truck over an "antique rocking chair". They had like 5 others lined up in case the shot didn't go well with the first one.

Television has sucked for 20 years.

Sounds a bit fishy, he's a bit chunky if a regular meth user, pot I could believe, and I would believe he has guns, not sure why he would be "a prohibited person", assume past felony? Sucks for him.

For me, more mindless entertainment. Yes, I know all storage shows and this one are rigged, but it is like watching antiques roadshow, you are gonna see interesting things. I do like when they do the "behind the scenes" and they tell how much porn and garbage they really find in storage lockers.

I enjoyed the show for years. Pretty interesting items and like someone said quite similar to Antiques Roadshow. There was an article in Time magazine years ago about the show and the pawnshop. Basically centered around the character Rick who is definately the brains of the shop. He spoke about researching things for hours in libraries back before the Internet made it so much easier. One of the pictures in the magazine showed a display for poker chips. I remember seeing an Empress one dollar chip. The photo description listed potential single poker chip price ranges at the time. Would not be accurate with the latest madness.
I may have to check the show out and just see what's going on now. I enjoyed it. Clearly it's not reality but who the fuck wants to watch reality on TV. I live it every day and I watch TV to get a break from it :)

Am I supposed to believe that this is the first time Chumlee was arrested since he got famous? That's a way more insane headline imo.

If it kills the show, they'll just replace it with something worse.

If you ask "What's on TV?" these days, the answer is, "Mostly commercials."

Television has sucked for 20 years.

This is the craziest thing I have read in this thread. TV has been at an all time high in the last 20 years.

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Deadwood
The Wire
The Shield
West Wing
Battlestar Galactica
Freaks and Geeks
Curb Your Enthusiasm

This is some of the best TV ever.
