I am new into the collecting of chips, but I did partake in the Horseshoe sale. I noticed some chips from this sale seem harder to shuffle than others.

I've noticed some of the $5 chips for example, shuffle easier if they are not as worn, but the primary $500s for example are not worn very much, but they seem harder to shuffle than the snappers, $1s, and not so worn $5s.

Is there any reason why some chips may be harder to shuffle, or just do not shuffle as easily as others(for any particular reason)?

I am also new, but rounded edges, I'm sure. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I do believe too rounded of edges makes it harder, but like the example I gave of the primary $500s(which are not rounded), do not shuffle very well. I have also never oiled chips, so perhaps that helps?

I believe the rounded edges of a used chip make it easier to shuffle, allowing the chips to glide past each other due to the gradual transition between chips. As opposed to the sharp edge of a new chip, which has an edge to get caught and an abrupt transition.

Oh, I was confused for a moment. I do agree that the VERY sharp edges are actually quite hard to shuffle(I noticed that with secondaries). I do think there may be some sort of sweet spot though. The more rounded $5s, and the maybe most worn chips, the primary $25 seem to shuffle worse than the $1s. The $1s have more squared edges than the rounded $5s and $25s, but again it may be needing some sort of oil(I haven't actually had a game with any of them yet after I cleaned them).
