A glimpse of the future ladies and gents.

I can see the prices dropping already. BTP sets will probably be listed at less than a $1 per chip once the panic sell off takes place. No need for chips in future poker. If any fearful potential sellers see this I will pay a premium for a BTP set of $1.25 per chip and I’d advise you to act fast before the panic reaches the market.

If this is for real, much better than than the etables I played on a cruise ship a few years ago.

The main problem was speed, pace of play. "Oh, is it my turn?"

This looks to fix that problem.

In before @SiouxperStack ‘s BTP wanted ad. :sneaky:

I talked about chips going away in casinos a few weeks ago :(

Chip prices won't go down, they wil go up as they become even more collectable
I hope this isn’t true. The casino/card room market is verrrry different from the degen pcf market.

Electonic tables don’t engage players like live tables. I believe (without any supportive data, mind you) that live poker is more profitable.

I admit, a loss leader for casinos; poker rooms babysit the grinders as their spouses punt away the remaining cash on the slots!

will be cheaper for casinos if all electronic. no dealer to pay, no chips or cards to replace.

Higher level games will still have live table I imainge, but the 1/2 2/4 type tables will go the way of the dodo. Like the all ectronic craps and roulette if you are looking for a low minimum table.

I’ve never played on one of these things, and I’m not in any rush to do so. But the bashing they get around here seems undeserved.
There are plenty of casinos that don’t have poker rooms. I would much rather play on one of these things, than play ANYTHING else in the damn casino.
It’s not like I expect these things to save love poker, but it’s certainly a possibility.

I thought Vegas already experimented with this and gave up.

I played at an electronic table at the Plaza more than a few years ago and it sucked and the next year when i came back it was gone. These tables may get another run because of Covid, though.

My ears. Just like the chips designers need some help the sound effects crew couldn’t even bother to research the sound real chips make.

You’ll probably start seeing more of these cropping up over the next few years. Will they fully replace tables with real dealers, cards and chips? I’m not so sure.
Electronic roulette has been around for a while but in the casinos I go to most of the machines are not being used compared to the live roulette tables.
Covid could be a factor in these increasing in popularity but that remains to be seen.

For a casino, this could be dead even before it gets started....all depends how strong the casino workers union is.

I played on one of these tables in a little Northern BC casino one night when I was stuck after missing a flight. (And missed @Mesnik44 ’s home game)

Couple of funny things:
- The screens were really unresponsive , possibly from extended use? So people were often hammering away at the screen trying to bet.

- People also seemed to lose sight of the fact that they were still actually playing live. Which meant that they were giving off such incredibly easy tells.

This table is light-years ahead of the e-table I played on at Indiana Live! a few years ago.

Still needs a virtual chip shuffle button, though.... and more realistic sounds.

Totally agree with a LOT of people giving off major tells during play. Especially on that older table design, where every seat had a player console/display -- it was much more online-like experience, with no real need to ever look up.

Yeah, a couple rooms in LV tried electronic tables several years ago: Excalibur and Plaza IIRC. It was a huge flop, and within a year they were both back to chips, cards, and dealers.

These tables are mostly on cruise ships so far.
Yeah, if you watch the video you'll see someone buying in with a Carnival room key.

I'd be okay with this on a cruise ship. The problems I've seen with cruise poker are that a) the games run very limited hours, and b) the dealers are often just pit employees who are clueless when it comes to running a poker table.

This eliminates the first problem and mitigates most of the second problem.

Wow, that table is pretty impressive! I still wouldn't like playing on it, but you can see it coming. Saying this as I am casually shuffling a stack of vcr tapes...

I'm the kind of guy who goes crazy inside over fingerprints and smudges on car windows, computer screens, my iPhone, etc., so the glass table top would put me on tilt.

Punt.

I sincerely hope this won't be the future of poker! How incredibly sad would that be? I love technology, but not everything needs to be digitalized and put on a screen!! What I am saying is that there is no computer program or monitor that can substitute the feeling of holding cards and chips in your hands, throwing your chips in the pot, seeing your stack with different colours and denominations standing right next to you, stacking your chips after winning a big pot, or a small one for that matter. All of that will be lost; without that it will just be a bunch of guys playing a videogame. Does any one here feel the same way or am I just a hopeless romantic?
