Chiproom golden ticket (1 Viewer)

I'm new here, but this:

you decide to publish name of a casino AND chip numbers, knowing full well that the latter is absolutely should not be done, and the former is borderline questionable too

makes no sense to me. What's wrong with making a guess at what casino the chips might be from and how many chips that casino had to get rid of, given that it's all public information?

"public" seems debatable, as I couldn't find anything after an hour of searching (but I could also be really dumb).

I think it is also somewhat common knowledge that Jim withholds specific chip counts information until after all chips are sold to prevent people from only buying out the short-supply chips and ensuring the maximum number of people can have a shot at playable sets.

Hypothetically, what do you think the golden ticket is worth?? Follow up question, do you think that price will go up or down once sale info is released?

LOL. Now that's a charitable spin that I hadn't even considered before. Well done.

It would almost certainly go up once the sale info is released - I wouldn't pay a dime for a golden ticket unless I knew there were chips that I wanted, and that I was unlikely to get, in the scramble.
For me, it's value would have to have some relation to the value of the chips I'm buying. If I'm just looking for a cash set with fracs - thats not likely to cost more than what, $1k? $1500? So it wouldn't make much sense to pay more than a hundred or two for a golden ticket.
But if I was shooting for as many of the oversized, high denom chips I could get, I'd probably be spending in excess of $10K, right? So then that ticket might be worth a bit more than a hundred or two.

Would you say he does it to make sure he sells out instead of being stuck with inventory?

It doesn’t even matter what Jim’s motivation is though. What is not debatable is that people know he doesn’t release chip quantities until all chips are sold. That is the point.

Note that the forum does have an "ignore" feature....

If other people can find out how many chips the casino disposed of independently of Jim, why does it matter what information he does or doesn't release?

The issue as far as I see is that Jim doesn’t release this information because people will buy the chips that are in short supply and flip them. By releasing the quantity’s prior to the sale the people who saw the picture know what chips are going to be valuable and that they should buy them so they can flip them for a 2-2.5x what they got them for. In my opinion I don’t think what @RainmanTrail did was terrible, but I can definitely see why there is controversy around it. I’m still not sure how he dug that info up though I’ve searched on the ICG website for like and hour and haven’t found a thing.

What Jim chooses to publish about a casino he bought out is his prerogative. He started that thread in his vendor section, and I deleted my post out of respect because he asked me to. But to think he can or even should be able to control information like how many chips a casino has is pretty lol. The people selling the chips on behalf of Horseshoe Southern Indiana sent out those chip counts to anyone interested in bidding on the chips. It's public information. It might not be easy to find information, but it's definitely not protected or even intended to be concealed.

When I bought out the Outpost Casino, I chose to publish upfront in my listings, to anyone and everyone, the full chip counts for every chip, even though it made them more difficult to sell through, because I like transparency. Apparently, Jim doesn't want to post the chip counts for the ones he's selling. We can all sit here and speculate why that is, but ultimately, it's his choice and he can choose to withhold whatever information he wants. To each their own. I will respect his decision and keep the chip counts out of his section. But if someone PMs me for the chip counts that I was given back when these chips were being auctioned off, I will gladly forward them to you unless Tommy asks me not to.
