Chip set up for craps (1 Viewer)

I'm going to run a 1/2 craps table for NYE (for fun). Want to make it as realistic as possible. Anyone have any idea what the chip spread/breakdown should be?

Probably provide everyone 1k in chips with a $5 min bet...

I just don't want to run short of change. I guess I'm thinking most about 1's and 5's. Don't want to overwhelm the table with excess change when most will likely be betting 25/100 but don't want to run short of change.

I guess the other issue I have is a relative shortage of $1's. I have multiple sets with $1x200, but few, very few, with more. Does anyone with experience think 200x $1 is enough?

So, 200 x $1 is probably fine. What you really need is a limit set of $5s and a decent chunk of $25s. You may have to ask to buy some $1s from players, but probably rarely.

I recommend $2k per person for $5 pass line bets with Vegas 3/4/5 odds. That will let them play for awhile without busting unless they go wild with betting.

You want to have a set for playing craps or you want to just be able to take the chips you have out and play a craps game with them?

Here is the thing with craps, you need vastly more chips than you need for playing poker. Like imagine you have a worse case of people playing 88 inside with a 3 or 10 set as the point. You are talking about 8x1s and 16x5s per player just on that one bet, never mind being able to pay out bets or other bets on the table or hard ways. You'll use the 1s for bets like 24 or for hard ways, and the bigger denoms as people color up or go on a longer run, it's all how the table plays, if the table is winning you'll use bigger chips, cold table, you need more 1s.

The set I use when we play is:
400x 1s
600x 5s
400x 25s
400x 100s
200x 500s
80x 1000s
20x 5000s

It's probably massive overkill, but we've had a lot of the cases empty, we normally run low on 5s, not 1s, and I've had the 5ks in play.

I like this but what I'd say do is give them like it in like $200 increments and then keep a tally of how many 'rebuys' they do. If you handle people $2k in chips and a $5 pass line bet most people will just start betting $100 pass line bets pretty fast and the run out.

if you have a low number of 1s you might consider making the min bet like 15. This will encourage people to bet bigger, it's a 2k buy-in with funny money, who cares. I'll leave most of the 1s for hardways bets and other fun things that make stuff exciting.

50/50 games are fun and work well. Play for 30-45 minutes. Top half get lower half's money and start again.

He used to deal craps in a casino, as well as he'll be doing our setup once we get our craps up and running for our rental events.

A fully stocked bank for the casino I worked at (with a $5 or $10 min bet) had:
$1 x 480
$5 x 1120
$25 x 480
$100 x 160
$500 x 80

That handled 16 players, with plenty to spare.

I'm going to be the only "dealer" at the table, probably doing a lot of teaching, so we are going to limit it to 8 players at a time max and hope I don't get overwhelmed.

I'm really surprised the bank was that small. 2300 chips for 16 players seems like you'd run out of chips at times but I wouldn't be surprised if I was way off.

That bank is around 75,000. We don’t get too many big craps players at all, and we have to report buyins over a certain threshold, which also scares off some players.

I think the typical hold was around 25-45k per day. Plus not all players would buy in at the craps table.

*edited to add: if you have a good craps crew you can get by with less chips, as you’re always monitoring their rail and making change to keep the flow going.


Now if you wanted a large bank, go visit the baccarat tables. First time I was in VIP and looked down at my tray, I counted around 600k. On one table.

one thing that happens when we play with the 20$ buy-in where you get 2,000 in chips is that some people will bet 5 pass line bets and 3/4/5x odds. I frequently hand in my 1s and 5s immediately and do 25 pass line bets, max odds, and then try to get to 50 or 100 base. So when a few people follow suit we do end up with needing two 'different' banks.

Given the repeated increases in CPC sets I've considered the following break down of 1,500 chips as a mashing together of both breakdowns.
$1.00 - 200
$5.00 - 600
$25.00 - 400
$100.00 - 200
$500.00 - 80
$1,000 - 20 (un-needed for a real table, but I want the chip)

$0.25s - 100 (if I'm getting a custom set i'm gonna get quarters in case I want to use it to play poker)

$1 - $5 - $5 - $5 - $25 - $25 - $100 - $500/$1000 - $100 - $25 - $25 - $5 - $5 - $5 - $1
