Charity PC Build To Benefit Wounded Warrior Project (1 Viewer)

What would you expect to get from a build like this? You did a great job!

Do you mean what do I expect to get at auction with proceeds going to charity or what would it cost to build something like that for a consumer?

Also, have an album here on Facebook with 40 pictures. Going to do up a video later this week

I guess both. Obviously one would hope to get far more at auction for charity, but if I wanted this exact build what's my price tag?

My hope is that the auction can raise 5K for Wounded Warrior. Here is a link to the parts in this build:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v6PhP3

As I type this the pricing for those parts is close to $1900, and that doesn't factor in a number of things:

- Shipping Costs

- Tax

- Pricing shown is the best pricing which means you'd be sourcing from multiple places which isn't generally ideal

- the graphics card price is showing at $430 but good luck finding these in stock or at that price point, high demand and low supply so they're usually going for $600+ from what I've seen (I managed to acquire the card before the ridiculous spike in price)

- Pricing doesn't include the custom cables from CableMod, the case graphics from SSP Vinyl, the Fanguards and GPU backplate from Jmmods, the front panel gauges from FrozenCPU, the PSU Shroud that I added to the case, the custom paint work I did on the RAM sticks or my time designing, sourcing and building the system (i.e. any markup isn't included in the price on that link, those are the prices I would be paying to source the components in a best case scenario)

And the "best" price for the graphics card in this build just jumped up to $787 from $429 because that price they didn't have any stock, so now just the components alone run almost $2200 before the extra customizations.

Now granted, you don't NEED to have the exact powerhouse components in this build. You could still get a unique looking build that is perfectly capable of handling todays games, etc. at a much lower price point.

I'd say a GTX 1050ti 4GB would be a decent card for 1080p gaming. It "should" retail for $150 but it's been well north of $200 these days. A GTX 1060 3GB or 6GB would be even better, although those prices are jacked up also.

The i5 8600K isn't needed if you aren't overclocking, you could spend $100 less on an i5-8400 processor or you could even get an i3 (the new versions are quad cores now)

With RAM you could drop it in half to 8GB which is really the spot I'd recommend given current RAM prices which have doubled due to shortages.

You could get a traditional IDE hard drive with twice as much space for half the cost of an SSD and it would still perform fine

So there's plenty of ways to cut the costs down while maintaining a powerful system with some cool aesthetics.

Whenever RAM and Graphics Card prices normalize this industry will be a lot better

The original plan was to launch the auction yesterday on eBay and run it for 30 days. However, it appears eBay only allows auctions up to a maximum of 10 days in length unless it's a real estate or fixed-price listing.

So I setup the auction to begin at 7pm EST on Thursday March 1st and end on Sunday March 11th at 8pm EST. That will give time to coordinate a number of supporters that are helping to promote it.

Unfortunately eBay will give anyone visiting the scheduled auction an error page since it's not live yet, so sharing the link is relatively pointless as well. However here is a preview shot at least

However, I am excited about the work I'm doing on the video, here's a sneak peek at the intro

GL on the auction!

I wish I'd seen this sooner, but if you ever decided to do a charity mod like this again, let me know. I work on military training simulators, and I could probably get my employer to let me scrounge through old panels/gauges/sticks/etc. to send something your way.

The auction is live and up over $1,000 with 6 days remaining. If you can bid it's greatly appreciated, but even helping us to spread the word is huge!

I'm giving away $25 Steam Gift Cards as random prizes for folks sharing our posts to get the word out.

Here's the tweet to share: https://twitter.com/MartinoMods/status/970707770935791617

Here is my Facebook page, the post to share is pinned to the top already with the auction link: https://www.facebook.com/MartinoMods/

Some great developments happening.

I put money into promoting my pinned post and it's received almost 1,000 likes and 126 shares. There's still a few days left to spread the word on the auction so if folks wouldn't mind liking, commenting on and sharing this post it helps increase visibility:

Today I was also contacted by the PR Department of Wounded Warrior Project and they want to do a story on this charity build! I just answered their email today with my responses :)
