Hello friends,

I'm looking to buy my first set of cellulose acetate playing cards. I know Kem makes these, but they are really expensive. I live in Europe and they are hard to find. I couldn't find a store that sells them. If someone knows a store in Europe I'd appreciate it.

I also read on the forum that Modiano Platinum is cellulose acetate. I'm not sure about the quality/feel and long term durability. Please share your experience with these and if someone has some pictures of regular index Modiano Platinums feel free to share them as well. Also I saw different packaging and don't know if the cards are the same.

That are the only two brands I know that produce cellulose acetate cards. I'm wondering if there are more companies out there.

Greetings

Hi!

KEM has no experience and probably won't because the price is absurd. But I was able to buy Modiano Platinum acetate last year for €4. I have liked them, they have been durable. They bow a little but evenly so it doesn't matter and they are easy to handle when mixing. I posted my own thread on the subject here before, there are pictures.

Platinums are excellent cards - only in poker size. Standart and jumbo index, red and blue.
2 different packages (old/new) - same cards.
Best offers on Amazon.
There is a way to get them flat when they‘re bowed.
I really like these cards!

That's good to hear that the quality of the cards stayed the same over the years even though they changed the packaging.
You mentioned that there is a way to flatten the cards if they are bowed. Do you mind explaining your method or is there already a thread and you can send me the link?
Appreciate it

Yeah it's a shame that KEM's are so expensive. But I'm glad to hear about your experience with Modiano. At least there is a competitor to KEM that is affordable. I checked out your thread, but I was searching for pictures of regular index cards. Either way I will buy a pair of Platinums and when I get them maybe upload the pictures for people that are interested.
Thank you for the recommendation :)

IMHO the best cellulose acetate cards are Angel Poker from Japan. (they're bridge size)

I doubt you can find them in stores but you can order them from Amazon Japan:

Shipping will be expensive for 1 set but if you order 3-4 sets and amortize the shipping, the price per set is very reasonable and a lot less then KEM.

Wow they look really nice. I like the clean design on the back. You said they are your favorite cellulose acetate cards. May I ask why you prefer them over Modiano Platinum and KEM or others? And thanks for drawing my attention to these cards :)

KEMs warp and are almost $60/setup. Modiano Platinums only come in Poker size and lack that buttery smooth feel. I think they might even be discontinued.

Angel Poker (acetate) are bridge size only, have that buttery smooth feel and handling like KEM but don't warp. They're also cheaper than KEM's. Angel's focus is selling only to casinos vs retail but they are available on Amazon.jp. Their PVC cards are also pretty nice and vey affordable.

P.S. Here are Angel's PVC cards. They come in Blue, Red, and Yellow and are very affordable:

I can attest that they don't warp. As I noted before though, it's funny that their packaging doesn't mention about their being acetate (not that it says much AT ALL)

I also agree that the Angel cellulose acetate cards are excellent. They have the same type of handle as KEMs (or very close), are usually less expensive, and so far, haven't bowed/warped. They are only bridge size and regular index, but they are worth the buy imo.

Another option for acetate cards are those made by Guild. They are available in both bridge and poker size, and they come in jumbo index as well. They aren't buttery smooth as kems and the Angel's, but they are still nice cards. They are around $30 usd per setup from what I've found.
