Ok so I’m new here and to the chipping world.

I’ve generally gathered that Paulson’s are prime. I’ve not personally played poker with them, but have handled them in Vegas during play.

I’m awaiting my first big set of China Clays currently. I’ll probably understand more when I get them but I’m just curious first

Everyone here seems to be in agreement that Paulsons are number 1.

And it seems like a huge bunch think that China Clay (majestic, royal, pharaoh, dune, Milano) is the closest you’re gonna get?

But where do custom sets from CPC fall? I’ve seen people say the quality isn’t close enough to mix them with a Paulson for play. Is that the same case for China Clay? Which is closer?

Is the benefit of CPC over CC just the fact that you’re picking your own edgespots and colors and they’re installing labels? Or is the chip better? Because I haven’t seen any threads (you can only read so many though) that say the CPC’s are better quality than CC.

I’ve still gotta put the time in on my new Majestics (that haven’t even arrived yet hahaha) before I could decide to upgrade to CPCs or Paulsons. Though I’m impulsive, I like to be smart lol. But I’m still thinking long term and holy shit should I be watching out and snagging some big deal on Paulsons? And really even one of my biggest holdbacks there is that I run .05/.10 games and I’ve yet to see anyone have .05 marked Paulsons. Maybe because $2-$10 per chip for a nickel chip is a little off balance haha.

Anyway the main question is a comparison between CPC quality and CC quality. Or do I have to get a CPC sample to tell myself? And if this has been previously covered, my apologies - feel free to redirect me to the appropriate thread!

Thanks!

CPCs are much closer to Paulsons (compression molded clay) than to CC (injection molded plastic with small amount of clay). They are unquestionably better quality and quality control compared to CC.

For me personally if I had to rate poker chips from 1-10 in terms of quality and preference I would rate CCs: 3, Ceramics: 5, BCC: 5, CPC: 8, TRK: 8, and Paulson THC: 10. CPCs would get an additional bump if I cared about customization, which I don’t. That being said, 95% of poker players would love CCs d never ask for anything more.

I was playing a plastic slug chips in May, joined here and have now been through sets that were CC, then CPC, then RHC, and now suits mold and THC. I had sample chips that were CC, Ceramic, RHC, CPC, and THC and tested my players. Every single player chose the THC as their favorite chips but all also said they would love playing with any of them.

But yes, get samples of CC, ceramics, CPC, and Paulsons to see for yourself. There are some beginner type sample sets that float around with all of those. Ask as a wanted ad in the classifieds here.

cc is close to plastic. but with a feel of dirty clay
cpc feels like it is made with organic hemp or something imo.
cpc is closer to paulson but lighter and the texture , like i said, feels hempish. lol
just my opinion ... i loved my cc pharaohs... then this site kill that love.
now im just paulsos. RHC and THC :)

CPC's are fantastic. They do feel different than Paulsons, but not necessarily better or worse, although I'd say most people here prefer the feel of Paulsons. The biggest advantage that Paulsons have over CPC is the color selection.

The one HUUUUGE advantage CPC has over Paulson is they're the only fully custom compressed-clay chip (available to the home market) in the world.

CPCs are true casino-quality compression clay chips. Absolutely no comparison with China Clays.
They feel and sound different than Paulsons, also depending on their particular mold.
Where they can be inferior is the color palette: 38 colors instead of 70smth by Paulson (Paulsons are brighter-colored too, in general).
Even if CPCs are the second best chips in the world, they're still the world's best chips you can legitimately order from the factory, customized or not.

You would do well to get some representative samples sets of the various types of chips (plastic, CC, compression clay, etc.). Within each type, there are differences between manufacturers, molds, feel, stackability, availability, etc.

Clays you'll see here: CPC, Paulson, TRK, BCC, etc.
China Clays you'll see here: Royals, Majestics, CC Pharaohs, etc.
Ceramics you'll see here: ChipCos, Tiki Kings, Nevada Jacks Skulls, etc.
High End Plastics you'll see here: Matsui, Bud Jones, Abiatti, etc.

There's a lot to learn. Take your time. Save your money (or at least spend as wisely as possible).

Thank you all for the information! Cleared up a lot of my misconceptions and confusion! I have some sample sets in the mail along with the set of Majestics, and I'll certainly be back with more questions after I get my hands on them haha!1

I've got some samples of CPC as well as played some games with them, and I would most definitely equate them to a paulson. Plus you can create your own base color and edge spot combinations, which is awesome.

I like CPCs particularly for tournament sets as larger denomination Paulson chips tend to get very expensive. Also, the custom nature of CPCs gives them added security vs Paulson’s that could be easier to attain elsewhere.

People around here are too snobby with chips. Don't get me wrong, I also think that paulsons are the top of the food chain, however as I've stated before CCs are far from being "plastic".

For me I don't like CPCs. I know it's sacrilege around here but I don't like the feel. They're not even close to Paulson. They're lighter, they have a weird hand feel and the color palette isn't close to Paulson. To me people only prefer them because they're customizable. Which is a good reason but for the price they're not worth it to me.

If I had to "rank" them I'd say it's #1 Paulson, #2 Ceramics (Abc, Sunfly etc) then #3 CCs/TRK/CPCs. I lump those all together because they each have an advantage. Whether price, customization, or nostalgia.

My advice is to throw my advice and everyone else's advice out the window and form zero opinion based on them and get chip samples and decide for yourself. Because you're the only one that can decide what you like.

Just for perspective the only kind of chips that I don't have a full playable set of is TRKs and that's basically because I'm not made of money. I might one day have some because to me variety is the spice of life. I wanna have them all, play them all and like them all for the unique benefits each bring to the table.

TRK is worth the money

Different CPC molds feel differently. I personally love CPCs, I wouldn’t say they’re inferior to Paulson, just different. And TRKs are fantastic as well, the more worn the more buttery they feel. Like someone said earlier, I recommend you get samples and give them a try yourself before you make a large purchase.

Yeaaah. China Clay's can't even compete with CPC. Totally different levels and tiers. Both have there place, and CCs are a super great value, but we're talking completely different things here...
