For your consideration, we have a limited collection of $1 and $5 chips from the poker room at the now-closed Cavanaugh’s Motor Inn in Kalispell, Montana.

I was lucky enough to have been able to purchase a large (3300+) collection of chips from this resort hotel as well it’s sister hotel, the Grouse Mountain Lodge (still operating) earlier in the summer. After initially selling off a big chunk, reserving a small portion of the rare denominations for charity fundraising purchases, and keeping a portion for myself to make a playable set (which I now consider my 2nd grail set after the CDI98s), we have this remainder which I would love to go to a good chipper’s home, or maybe a few good chippers’ homes. Apart from these, I do not think there are any left in the secondary market as of this moment. The story I heard from the person I bought from (who was acting as an agent of the hotel operator) was that these chips were taken out of circulation over time, and that at least one of the card rooms was planned to be opened again in the future (presumably with chips that they kept), but so far there is no evidence to support or deny these claims.

The chips themselves are in better condition than I would ever have thought. Please see the pictures which highlight some of the unique qualities of these casino chips which I will attempt to describe with as much accuracy as possible.

Cavanaugh $1’s
- Paulson THC mold
- Solid “Forest Green” colour
- Gold-coloured inlay (rare)
- Shaped inlay: cog (very rare for a low denomination chip)
- Condition: fair to good used, occasional flea bites, rounded edges but majority will stand on edge
- 6 racks available, $110 per rack

Cavanaugh $5’s
- Paulson THC mold
- Solid “Mauve” colour
- Gold-coloured inlay (rare)
- Shaped inlay: cog
- Condition: very good used, few flea bites, square edges and all will stand on edge
- 2 racks available, $150 per rack

All the chips have been ultrasonic cleaned. Two of the pictures have stacks that I have oiled so you can compare the edges and faces of clean vs. oiled chips – as you can see, the oiled chips have a slightly deeper, more uniform colour. The cost of the chips do not include oiling, but if a prospective buyer wishes then I will manually compression oil these chips for $25 per rack and an extra few days before shipping.

Please post interest in this thread and follow-up by PM for any quantities you want. Priority will be given to those who purchase multiple racks – it is not necessarily first come first served. The first 48 hours after this posting in the Classifieds will be used to sort those with early interest.

I will ship anywhere in the world at actual shipping cost by Canada Post (local buyers in Greater Vancouver may pick up at their convenience), insurance optional. Payment in US dollars by PayPal Friends and Family, or PayPal Goods and Services with +4% charge on net cost.

I love to give deals on larger purchases, so also see below:

***MULTI-RACK SPECIAL DEAL #1 ***
I can combine these chips into two sets with the following breakdowns, each:
300x $1 and 100x $5
Each set will be discounted to $450 (a $30 savings), and I will cover half the cost of shipping.

***ALL-IN SPECIAL DEAL #2***
Take all 8 racks for the great price of $850 (a $110 savings), and I will include 8 ChipCo acrylic racks and cover half the cost of shipping. For any buyer with a Canadian address, I will cover the entire cost of shipping!

Feel free to ask any questions.

They are lovely chips. Not sure I understand the “gold colored” inlay you mentioned. Surely the inlays were once white, and they have simply yellowed with age? As you can see on the $1 chips, the inlay tends to be more white at the edges. The HP chips are also like this.

They are gold. I have a crappy camera. Yes, some chips show a little fading toward white at the very edges of the cog, but that's due to slight wear and age. The inlay is indeed a beautiful gold colour.
If you still doubt, @DrStrange, @T_Chan, @Gear, @, @navels, @grantc54, and @Lemonzest all have chips in hand. If you don't believe me, then believe them.

I know f all but in my inexperienced opinion the inlay does look gold. It does not appear to be aging.

The inlays are gold colored. They are not an aged / damaged white. I can not figure why this is an item of contention. The casino is free to design their inlay however they choose - - - and they choose a gold background.

I don’t think this is an item of contention - it was just a question. Are they actually metallic gold similar to the paulson metallic gold color?

There was some back and forth in a previous sale thread about the legitimacy of the gold inlay. In my mind, I believe it all got resolved amicably. By the way, @BGinGA, I hope your received your $5 Cavanaugh chip in good condition.

To answer the question, yes, they are a metallic gold, but it's what I would describe as "muted". Not at all like sparkly holographic gold.
In the mint Grouse Mountain chips (for those lucky enough to get a sample set), the pristine gold inlay *really* stands out. A thing of beauty.

Yes I did, and thank you. Inlay confirmed gold (muted is a good description). Interesting chip. Hub shaped inlay, too. (y)
