We are heading to Orlando in March, hitting up the Universal parks for a few days, Cape Canaveral one day, and likely the Wonder Werks (comedian show one night). Otherwise, the wife and kids will be spending some time poolside.

I was thinking I’d love to check out the best poker Orlando has to offer... at least get in a short session. are there any recommended poker rooms in the Universal Studios area? Thanks

In the Universal Studios area, there’s nothing that I’m aware of. I used to live in Clermont and the closest poker rooms were the Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa, the Orange City Poker Room in Orange City (opposite side of Orlando than Universal), and then a little bit more of a distance is the Ocala Poker Room just south of Gainesville. Played at the Ocala one a lot in college.

In Port Canaveral they have the Victory Cruise Casino, but no live poker on it.

And if you pass through the Port- Grill’s Seafood. Excellent food and an outdoor deck to observe the Port. Cruise ships depart around 4:30ish in the afternoon if there are some in port the day you are there. Pretty cool to watch them go by.

Am I missing anything @Parrothedd ?

As I found out yesterday, on your way home get to the airport VERY early. Flew to Orlando for SQM, got to the airport two hours before the flight home and JUST missed missing my flight. Doors are supposed to close 15 minutes before takeoff and I missed that window by three minutes, luckily they waited for me.

Maybe it wasn’t the norm for the airport as I also flew out last month for a cruise and it wasn’t quite THAT bad but yesterday was a fucking madhouse.

If you're looking for poker then Oxford Downs is definitely the closest. If you are looking for table games then Seminole Hard Rock is it.

Orlando is ALWAYS a mad house. I fly in and out a few times per year for work, and if you don't have TSA pre-check 2 hours early is the absolute MINIMUM time I would tell someone. So many families going through that airport - spring break time frame? 3 hours easy.

Mom and brother live in Gainesville so I've caught a few hands on visits.

Oxford Downs is a reasonably nice room with a lot of retirees - believe it is relatively close to one of the huge retirement communities.

Ocala was a dump - been a few years since I was there but I doubt this has changed

They don't have rooms in Orlando as I don't think they want Mom and Dad to drop their Disney / Universal money at the casino and ruin the family vacation.

Bump....

We’re in Orlando for the week for wifey’s convention. I’ll have some time to kill, I found the same things already listed here, just wondering if anyone has any other insight or advice. We’re in Kissimmee, so already on the Tampa side of Orlando. I’m thinking Hard Rock Tampa is most likely

Definitely worth stopping at if you can avoid going during rush hour. It's like a maze inside the casino floor on multiple levels, but the poker room is super nice.

+1 MCO is a total shitshow.

OTOH check out Boston Sea Party
