Hello guys,

I'm new to the world of poker chips and was browsing on the database section on this forum.

I couldn't find an explanation regarding the difference between casino, custom, and fantasy poker sets.
I'm guessing it has to do with the degree of customization but i can't seem to find some clear definitions.

Can somebody explain the different rules to me?

Thanks!

Casino= used at an actual casino
Custom= designed by someone not running a casino, for example a member of pcf
Fantasy= set designed by manufacturer to sell to the masses that isn't a casino, for example the casino de isthmus or CDI chip set.

LOL - you beat me to it.

My only question, are NAGB (Boat) chips custom or fantasy? I think one could argue either way (except for the "sell to the masses" part)

Boat chips definitely blur the line between the two categories. Probably why they are referred to the way they are, NAGB or boat chips. There's also the large group buy sets like emerald bay, crown plaza, park place. I wouldn't exactly call them customs, but also doesn't fit fantasy. I guess we need a fourth category for pcf group buy?

For the benefit of the OP, NAGB means "Not a Group Buy", a semi-derogatory term applied to several sets of chips that were designed by PCF members and were manufactured by Paulson (who only sells to casinos) under the illusion that they were destined for casinos (that didn't exist in reality). Several of the sets were supposedly to be used for a series of (non-existent) cruise ship casinos, hence the term "Boat Chips" for those specific sets. Fantasy? Custom? Casino?
