I was screwing around trying to get some cool looking pictures of my CDI 98 chips and busted out my trusty old Spenser‘s black light to see what that would add to the mix and I noticed something interesting. On the fives and 25s, many of the chips had UV ink as part of the inlay and one just randomly had Paulson written on it. Some had nothing. Does anyone know the significance or insignificance of this other than some chips in the set were made at different times? There was nothing on the 1s, 100s or 500s. If you’re busting out your own chips to check on this, and see any extra fives or 500s you want to unload, let me know. I need a few to fill out a barrel. Thanks

Not holograms, but UV ink. It's a security feature you find on some chips, usually the higher denominations. It's an option that chip makers give to their customers; some casinos use it, some don't.

I think it's interesting that Paulson included it on these fantasy chips; they certainly didn't need to, as no customer would have been demanding it as a security measure. That they had at least two different stamps is even more interesting.

The Luxor has a line of Chipco ceramic $1 chips, and each one has UV ink, but they have six different patterns that the chips can be stamped with, and they seem to be more-or-less randomly distributed across both faces of each chip, so that you might find (for example) a chip with "LUXOR" in UV on one side and "NILE" in UV on the other.

UV ink on a fantasy set is interesting (I edited OP to use correct terminology). I wonder if they just had some blank casino inlays with the ink that got mixed in with their home sets during production. Would love to know the story behind this if anyone has additional insight.

A single top hat with cane and the word PAUL-SON are quite common UV ink stamps on lots of chips from various casinos.

For inlaid chips, has this been proven to be on the inlay itself or the laminate that protects it?
I am uncertain what layer it is on. Would need to murder and separate the layers to find out I guess. I don’t want to know that bad though! It does seem to be in a slightly different location on one of the fives I took a picture of which may mean it is on the laminate. Will have to look at some more to see locations on them.

Some do have it in the upper part so the laminate layer may be where located. Also on the fives it is much more prevalent on the radiant reds than the slightly darker ones I have.
