Does anyone know, do casinos do anything to new chips before they put them in play (e.g. oil or other treatment)?

I have never heard of it. AFAIK casinos just put them in play. There is no special treatment or oiling.

A paulson rep once told me that in hot humid climates in central/south america they tell their casino customers not to store any backup chips in non-airconditioned storage areas (ie metal butler building sheds) , and to find some place in the casino. Most casinos ignore this advice, so I wonder what it is like when they dig out some melting chips 2 years later.
