Hi,

I'm in the process buying a set for Cash-Game, NL Hold'em. I do not have much experience of CG myself. Normally I host Tournaments, but since I joined this forum I thought it would be nice to provide the knocked out players the posibility to play CG. Me myself don't care that much of CG-set breakdown, but some of my friends maybe do. And I want to provide a good breakdown, Any suggestions of this would be more than welcome.

- It should be functionally for max 6-players. No more players.

- Maximum of 400 chips in total.

- Up to 5-hours of game play.

- Exclusively adapted for stakes 0.5/1

- Max 200bb buy-in (200)

- I want to use denominations 1, 5, 20, 100.

- Quarters or halves? Since it would only be used for 05/1 I guess quarters is meanless?

- But I like Antes in CG. Not necessary, but preferable. And then maybe quarters is they way to go with?

- No Non-denoms

Well you’ll need a frac if you’re gonna do $0.50/$1 games. Does it have to be limited to 400 chips? Feels like that’s a lower number if your buy in max is $200

.50 - 50
1.00 - 100
5.00 - 200
$20 - 40
$100 - 10

EDIT - I didn’t see the bit about the antes. I guess you could go:

.25 x 80
1.00 x 100
5.00 x 170
20 x 40
100 x 10

I agree with the above comments but if you must stick to 400 chips I think something in this ballpark would work.

60 - 0.50
100 - $1's
160 - $5's
70- $20's
10 - $100's

This is a bank of $3600 so it allows 18 $200 buy ins.

50c—60
$1–100
$5–260
$20–60
$100–20

6ea 50c for the blinds per player is plenty. I like 15 $1’s per player on average. Maximizes the amount of $5’s for a 400 chip set. You will need more bug chips for rebuys and total bank than normal because of the set size.

edit: upped to a 500 chip set.

Ok, let's say 500pcs chips then :)
Now you’re talking!
What do you think, guys. Without regard for full rack OCD talk, does this 6-max game need more than 80 quarters?
That’s 12 quarters per player.
Everybody tosses one into every pot for an ante, but realistically, very few are needed beyond that, since the big blind is a buck.

I’m pretty sure 80 is the most quarters he’d need, and I’m wondering if he could comfortably get away with fewer.

If they are playing 50c/$1 I wouldn’t get any quarters.

with a $200 max buy-in I would play $1/1 instead and drop the fracs altogether.
He wants to use quarters for antes, on top of the blinds. I missed that the first time too.

I would use a dealer ante instead. It is faster. Everyone pays the same anyways and you aren’t having to figure out every hand who forgot their 25c.

For Cash-Game I prefer the traditional Ante from each player.

Yes, i agree with you 80 quarters is fine.

I'd issue
10- $0.50 (in the first buy in)
20-$1
15- $5
$100 max buy in

Rebuys
I would issue as
20- $5 chips (doesn't work for your breakdown
or
10-$5
2- $25 (first rebuy)
or
4-$25 (additional rebuys)
or
1- $100 (when all other chips in play)

That should provide many chips on the table. However I always side on more chips than less in my sets
60 - .50 chips
120- $1
150- $5
60- $25
10- $100
400 chips

If 500 chips
120 - .25c
150- $1
160- $5
50- $25
20- $100
500 chips (this variation lets you also play .25/.50 and up to 1/2 for your small table.

if .50 mandatory
80-$0.50
160 -$1
190-$5
50-$25
20-$100

This is great, many thanks. Just one problem, I intend to use $20 instead of 25.

Thanks for all help.

Right now I think I'll go for

0.25 - 80pcs

1 - 100pcs

5 - 150pcs

20 - 50pcs

100 - 20pcs

Step 1: Figure out you starting stacks.

Step 2: Multiply by number of players.

Step 3: Add large denom chips for rebuys.

This is not rocket science.

Individual antes of 0.25 is a bit high for 0.5/1. It's 1.50 per rotation compared to 1 when using BBA.

Back when WSOP used individual antes, they where usually between 1/6 and 1/10 of the big blind, whereas your 0.25 is 1/4 of your big blind. 0.25 would be a perfect ante if you doubled the blinds.

It could work, but I thought I'd point it out. :)

I am going to suggest something even more spartan

60 * 0.25
100 * 1
200 * 5
40 * 20

Bank 1915

This accomodates 9 buy ins only so I think you may have to allow 100 notes to play on the table.

400 chips is pretty constraining considering we have to account for an ante chip.

The upside of doing an individual ante is there should be quarters in every pot, so I say get used to making change and cut the quarters to a minimum. In a 6 player game, that's an average of 10 per player, that should be pretty good you should almost never get in a spot where more than one player needs change.

But ante cash games are so uncommon today compared to 30 years ago. If you were to decide to change to a 1-1 cash game you could free up 60 chips.

100 *1
260 * 5
40 * 20

Bank 2200

C'mon, man. A new member asking for help doesn't need to read this.

Step 1: Figure out you starting stacks.

Step 2: Multiply by number of players.

Step 3: Add large denim chips for rebuys.
For cash, I prefer
1: Figure out how many blind chips and work horse chips you want per player (i.e. when all are in play). I want a lot more 5s in play than what is covered by the starting stacks.
2, 3: the same

Also, I never use starting stacks for cash games. First player(s) gets all the lowest denom chips + whichever workhorses are needed. Subsequent players get workhorses and make change at the table. When all workhorses are out I start handing out value chips.

Both methods work, I just prefer this one.

cash on the table.... :vomit:

Makes it too easy for people to manipulate their stack size. Either to take cash off or slip in extra bills to cover someone’s stack size. Never been a fan of it.

Well, I'm never against a barrel of $100 as a capstone. I do it, everybody does it, sacrificing a barrel of workhorse is probably worth it.
