Cartamundi aquired USPC to Cartamundi Group (1 Viewer)

Huge news. Wonder what implications are in store for Fournier's future.

So right now Fournier, Copag, Bicycle and Kem are under one management.

Yeah but I belive that as long they have separate production plants that will not affect quality and specific features of cards. Plus on WSOP it's KEM product regardless Bicycle design. So now only major independent brands are MODIANO, DA VINCI AND GEMACO that make plastic cards outside Cartamundi Group.

Maybe they can get KEMs to stop bowing again. Thanks for nothing USPC!
This is a myth. I had several pre USPC Kems that bowed way worse than any post USPC Kems. I even posted pics in this forum. Store Kems upside down with a cut card and dealer button on top and they will stay flat forever. The only change in stock I noticed happened around 2011 when the Kem card stock got a rougher feel.

I think that if another stock could have been found that resisted bowing AND also retained the soft feel Kems are known for, they would have done it.

Back to the topic, I would like to see Fournier cards available in the US outside of the bridge sized prestige line which is hard to come by and offered in only one variety.

Hopefully Cartimundi will leave thing well enough alone with Fournier (like USPC did) and keep the production facilities the same in Spain, letting them run with just oversight like has been the norm for USPC. Would hate to see them come in and change up too much with Fournier.

I just contacted KEM (USPC Co) about 2 setups of bowed cards.

They wrote back and said if they had been exposed to heat, etc. that that would be 'mistreatment.' I told them they had not, (truth) and they requested I send them the Ace of Spades and a couple other cards from each deck and they would examine them. I did. Maybe I'll get SOMETHING out of it. Right now I have 4 warped decks of cards......Will keep you informed.....

Thats just bogus. I know that KEM tend to kinda crack on the surface if exposed do heat or extreme sunlight (looks like crushed ice surface) . That is why you should note keep KEMs in car on summer. But bending is different...and happends during ordinery use. Old KEMs used to bend to but sort of indside then outside.

I’m sure Kems and most plastic cards would warp when exposed to heat. But that is now what most people are doing to their Kems. In my experience humidity is what warps most Kem cards...or any cellulose acetate card for that matter.
I had a deck from 2003 that was heavily played with...like one a week for 5 hours. They never bowed. My hypothesis is that the oils from people’s hands kind of sealed them from humidity.

Store them like I described and you will be fine. I actually store many of my cards like that as other brands will take a bow...though most just complain about Kem because they can be severe.

I have Cartamundi acetate, Gemaco Super-flex and Five Star, and Dal Negros that all have taken a bow with minimum usage.

^^^that

About 15 years ago, one of my poker buddies had a significant amount of rainwater get into his basement poker room after a biblical rain event. He had about 10 setups of Kems in the room and every deck became so bowed they were unplayable. All went into the trash. The was my awakening that humidity can have on Kems.

In the page of Fournier already includes the name of the new owner

but does not have all the capital, the heirs of Fournier still have interests in the Factory and control several businesses related to casinos and licenses of slot machines in Spain and South America.

My very first deck of Kems warped really bad. Circa 2002. I left them out of the box on my poker table in an mostly unfinished basement for a few days. Had a long night, went to bed and traveled for business the next morning I believe. When I came back they were bowed pretty bad.

My second set never bowed. The one reference above. I always preferred the feel of Kems exponentially more than any other card but I boycotted them for many years. Went to Copag (only real option then) then went on to try almost every other brand made. Once I read of this storage method I gave it a try and my Kems have been great for years now. I have about 5 sets of them currently and they are all perfectly flat since I changed my storage method.

Good to hear. Now they need to start sending them here to the US. Used to be able to get them under $20 US off Amazon but now they are imports. I like Fournier cards but they are not worth $30-40. IMO they are nothing special from a feel perspective but are very durable. I payed about $16 I think for my non prestige set a few years ago. That’s what they are worth to me.

I think Da Vinci is part of Modiano.

Are you certain of that? It seems like making chips with a customer's mold would avoid all their concerns...

I'd take Gemaco off that list. GPI bought Gemaco some time back. Then Angel bought GPI.

And here is my follow up.....

Got all the cards I sent back to USPC back in the mail with a letter that said....

These cards were made by KEM and not USPC, so we can't help.

Well, DUHHHHH! I TOLD you they were made by KEM in the EMAIL I sent BEFORE you told me to send them in.

So I emailed them and said....."Yeah, They're KEMS. and who owns KEM?"

And I received:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for reaching back out to us!

So.......... F the USPC company.

I now won't buy bicycles anymore.

Unfortunately, my friends with dry hands/fingers are NOT fans of plastic cards..... so I guess it is back to used casino cards?

So you are trying to get a replacement deck for something manufactured over 15 years ago? Whether or not they were the same company I think this is a stretch. They are a set playing cards not a wrench from Snap On. They are somewhat of a disposable item ... though they usually last quite a while.

And no, no one should ever use paper cards to play poker with. Paper cards are horrendous to play with and become marked and worn extremely fast. If you don’t like Kems try one if the other dozen or so manufacturers....but don’t use paper cards
