I always deal and will sometimes have someone sitting opposite of me on my oval table deal. My players are appreciative of it. By dealing, it also let's me keep action flowing smoothly.
I've been hosting for 12 years, and not a single event in that time has been pass-the-deal. Very few of the other events I attend locally are pass-the-deal, either.
I was under the impression that a rotating deal was the norm. I've taught 60+ players how to shuffle and deal, and now I find out that it's not the norm?
For our tourney, we have added points for dealing, and after 3 full deal (full game) or 6 partial deals (half the game) you get a free entry to the next tourney. Now we get volunteer to deal, and it really doesn't impact the pot much when we have a free entry.
We also have some regulars that just love dealing... they want the game to move...
