Car needs fixed - need advice (1 Viewer)

No need to shit on some people’s professions. I’ll be sure to shit all over your sales threads ;-)
Well you don’t own the dealership do you? I wasn’t speaking of the profession and for sure not about you. But it is well known that the dealership is significantly higher priced in the service department than an independent shop. And to have a 110k mileage car repaired at a dealer isn’t really a good idea.

A factory trained technician is absolutely the best person to fix the vehicle, not sure why the mileage would matter. A franchised dealer has its benefits and cons. There is a reason it’s priced more. Expenses are higher. Better parts, better staffing, and usually better service. We don’t know the full story, an estimate screenshot isn’t the diagnostics. I absolutely appreciate everyone helping him so he has informed questions, he picked up a TON of insight I would also ask the dealer, but I will defend the “fuck that persons business” regardless the business. And my comment is in jest and all in good fun. This is something anyone in the auto industry must deal with on the daily (earning trust) so I have a short temper, again all in fun, what you said wasn’t personal I was just having fun

FUCK PAYDAY LOANS.

Oh boy looks like missed the start of a good party.... at least there was some good advice posted in this thread!
You'll git r done Dan!! It's not a big worry at all unless you're having these problems....
I blew the turbo, intake manifold and block on a tdi jetta. Like poured coolant into the bulb and it ran out the oil plug...

It didn't cost that much to replace the motor.
Was your foot also through the floor board? Lol

1) 100% on the compression check first.
2) changing the timing belt is just good sense, as long as 1) doesn't show up as a problem (see earlier compression check description .
3) replacing an engine is a fun project, if you're into that sort of thing but, again, a small shop can do it a lot cheaper than the dealer. Used motors are about as cheap as they come for that vehicle too.
4) you can probably get away with checking the oil regularly and keeping your spark plugs clean too...no further action needed. Keep going!

what i was stuck on was the CE light went from blinking one day to steady the next.
I dont know much about hondas, but in audi if its blinking it means pull over and get it towed to prevent major engine damage if its steady you can drive it but get scanned.

I agree with telling them to button up the car and you will want to get a second opinion. do the plugs and coil pack. i am assuming they are original and never changed. If you want more peace of mind have an independent (if you dont know how to do it yourself) do a compression test

Again. I wasn’t poking at you. I was surprised at the messages I got about the shit on my sales threads thing but I’m sure you were kidding. Sorry for the de rail @Pinkdan. But I have to say. My father-in-law worked at milwaukees largest gm dealer for years as service manager and later opened his own shop. He had better techs than most dealerships and yes a much cheaper facility and overhead. I don’t care how fancy the shop is or what the overhead is I care about the car fixed right and it doesn’t get done any better at a dealership than at a good independent shop.

lol, no. I hated that car and it was one of the dieselgate one's so VW was buying it back as long as it still moved so I wasn't caring about it. The turbo started to go on it, then the head gasket 'had a problem'. Damn car was so complicated the mechanic I've gone to for years and still take all my other cars to said 'I've got no idea, take it to vw'. VW said I just needed an oil change. On the way home on 495 it started driving REALLY rough and as I pulled to the side of the road and it made a loud thud noise and that was the end of it.

I heard all kinds of things like 'oil in the coolant', 'hydrolocked a piston', 'cracked block'. Had a european specialty shop find me a beat up tdi motor, swapped it into the car, got it moving under its own power and idled it into the local vw dealership in exchange for a fat check.

I think the German's should've stuck to beer and Schnitzengruben lol

Ahhhh. That explains the pro dealership attitude. All good. I get the position, however I hold position on price difference

Yeah, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche are such crappy cars compared to the average Chev, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Ford, Mercury or Dodge ( oh, wait, half of those brands either don't exist anymore or they gave up trying to make cars and only produce trucks).

Sure, VW crapped the bed with some of their small Diesels, but in general I'd take a German made car over a US made car any day of the week.

And you're right, they do make better beer (and schnitzengruben) than you can find in America as well!
:sneaky:

Buy non-turbo charged Japanese or Korean, any American V6 or V8 (no dodge, jeep or Chrysler), or certain non-turbo charged US 4 cylinders.

Okay, so I have a 2014 Honda Odyssey, it has 124k miles on it and still has a small amount left to pay on it.

Here’s the work that needs to be done:

So my question is, do I just sell this to Honda for a trade in on a different van? I heard the chip shortages are making buying a car crazy right now.

This amount of $ is too much for me to pay all at once so I’d have to finance it which sucks, especially because it’s no guarantee that something else won’t break on it soon. And of course I just put new tires on this thing, haha.

So I’m feeling stuck with what to do.

Any advice is welcome, thanks

if you have a VW/Audi - take it to NGP - New German Performance in Lorton. They also have a shop MD as well. Best shop on the east coast - hands down. They build VAG -USA’s show cars.

They did a full a engine swap, big turbo upgrade, etc on my 2.0T project (sleeper). It’s a little monster now - lol.

Seriously, they are great, their techs are the best, and they are way cheaper the the dealer. They have seen and fixed everything!!! I had to have the VW “performance” shop in TX call them to get my car to pass the TX emissions inspection. The NGP sales advisor talked them through it, didn’t even need to get the tech.

(The shop here spent 2 weeks trying until I forced them on a conference call with NGP - lol)

I'll never own a vw again.

I hated the car, owning it was miserable.
