About a week ago I signed up for chiptalk. Ever since, I've been trying to 'confirm' my email so I can participate in that forum as well. I've yet to receive the requested confirmation link and nobody with chiptalk is responding to my requests.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with someone from the other side?

I tried joining three weeks ago... Never got any response.
What a shame. I love PCF, I've just found some classifieds over there I'd like to entertain. Oh well.

PM on its way.

Thanks for pinging me, @bentax1978.

As you guys will quickly learn, CT has a bit of an absentee sys admin. Most of the active members made a mass migration to PCF a while back.

There are still some great threads over there filled with great info and pron, but the majority of the activity has shifted over here thanks to Tommy's active role in keeping this place running smoothly.

I had the same issue with CT 4 months ago. After getting help from @abby99, I was so excited to post an introduction and join a new community. When I posted the intro, I got ONE welcome response, from @abby99.

Then, I made my second post asking about information on Paulson chips, as I had none at the time. My only response was from @softchewy, which was incredibly thoughtful and detailed.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I got no other welcomes or responses. I thought to myself "there has to be a more active poker chip forum than this", to which I found my answer [emoji3]. I searched to see if @abby99 and @softchewy were members, and when I found out they were, I made the switch (and got PAGES of responses to my intro).

Being a new chipper and not exposed to any of the backstory behind CT, I can honestly say that I check it from time to time because there is some vast chip knowledge there, but I don't post there. My heart belongs to PCF [emoji14]

I still log in every now and again just because... lost all interest in posting many months ago when I started a thread with pron of a beautiful mixed tournament set I was working on and didn't get a single like or response. Shrug.

A month or so ago I logged in after a 10-day absence and there were only two threads above the "below threads have no activity since your last visit" line. We have it so much better here (thanks Tommy) but it's still sad.

I go over to Chiptalk with some regularity, but unfortunately not to make or view any new posts. As mentioned, there is years worth of valuable information. Regrettably much of the photos have been lost and I've run across some posts that were rendered indecipherable jumbles of code following the conversion from vBulletin.

When I was in high school I worked at a movie theater for a manager who was virtually never there. We weren't permitted to do the ordering ourselves so we were constantly running out of essentials. I remember one weekend when we literally had no popcorn and halfway through ran out of soda syrup. There were "assistant managers" on duty and they were the only things that kept the place halfway working in our manager's absence, but they weren't allowed to do much of the job and so were left apologizing most of the time rather than actually fixing the many problems that arose. I guess that's a long way of getting to the fact that I can imagine @abby99's frustration at trying to deal with the issues presented in the OP here.

As an aside, a little after I quit the theater, we found out that the 35 year old movie theater manager had been having an affair with one of the high school age employees and had embezzled more than $180k over the course of 2 years until the owners caught on. I think the high school kid was actually 18 years old by the time the relationship was discovered so no charges, but he did get charged for the theft.

Up until the great migration to here, I was still checking in every day at Chiptalk but I had long ago lost interest in posting. When Chiptalk starting asking for people to pay in order to provide content that supported the site (ie. have photo albums, a messaging system that was limited to what, 10 messages? lol) I totally lost interest.

The owner lost sight of the fact that it is the members that provide the content and at the end it felt like we were being milked for every last dollar he could squeeze out of that site.

Yes I get that there was a great community there and many members did pay for memberships, including "Lifetime" (oops) memberships because they felt that Chiptalk had up until that point provided great value. But in my mind, a forum is only as good as it's content and it is the members that provide the content. When the members stop contributing, the forum dies. Group buys and private sales drive activity to the board and those activities need a proper messaging system. People come to look at the chip pictures and other pron. To do that, albums are essential. Asking people to pay for that cut Chiptalk off at its knees.

This might be a good time to mention the current technical issues. Most of the broken links are to images on imageshack and photobucket that have been deleted, moved, renamed, etc., and these can only be fixed by the members themselves. Unfortunately, links to gallery images broke during the upgrade; this requires a global fix that I am not authorized to do. Manual fixes are possible (I've fixed all of mine) but it's not realistic to attempt to do this throughout the site. Images that were uploaded directly as attachments to posts are intact.

Since the infamous hack, emails from CT have been and continue to be flagged as spam. New accounts and password changes require manual intervention, which I'm happy to provide.

I can't do what it takes to keep the lights on, but I'm making sure that the night light is plugged in and has a good bulb. ;)

Edited to clarify the imageshack/photobucket issues.

So it would be tasteless to set the line and sell action on when the lights go out on the blue wall? :p

J/K. Love it here, but losing most of that CT content or watching it erode is sad. Was a great community even though the business model was flawed, and with minimal effort it could have been maintained.

The PCF UI is phenomenal. Best user friendly forum I've found.
