Just came across this site and spent the past 72 hours reading as much I could…couldn’t sleep bc so many DECISIONS…and I just got rocked in a PLO game LOL

From the sound of it…even CPC doesn’t compare to Paulson. I start a home game beginning of September 2021 so I have time but need a full set for 2-5 NL game. Min buy in is $500. I need 9 racks of 5s and two racks of $1 and $25…

1) top hat and cane, not PAULSON script, I don’t like most of their reds…
2) most important is a good $5 chip. I had the knock off casino de ithmus CID in the early 2000s (non Paulson) and sold them in college. Kicking myself now…LOVED the bright pink/red…
3) My budget is $1500-$2000

Advice thoughts recommendations?

often do full sets go for sale? Of any Paulson, not a fan of the red/yellow combos on the JACK chips. Reminds of McDonalds lol.

Since I’m new will I be blocked to make a buy for a week or so? How we do trust the buying system? Is it always just dibs lol.

How close is the CPC to Top Hat?

Unless you buy a stock line of CPC chips you won’t be getting them in time for the start of your game. Get some samples to decide foe yourself.

The Horseshoe Indiana, Cleveland and Cincinnati Horseshoe casinos will be your best/cheapest options for real casino chips that will fit in your budget. They are all RHC mold chips (for the most part). Once you post more and have been on the site longer you can post a wanted ad. There are a ton of the above chips on this site. Search foe them to see if they are colors you like.

Are you running 2 tables and that is why you need 9 racks of $5’s?

Okay...great advice...thanks guys. I'm leaning towards Horseshoe Indiana chips. Bad idea to mix the $5 Horseshoe Indiana with the $1 Cleveland? And then I could always "murder" them and add new inlays?

Im chasing the Indiana ones. Love their purple single and red 5 and green 25. I’ll settle with Cleveland 100s!

you will be able to find HSI eventually but the cleveland 100s are pretty tough. people don't want to give up those bearclaws.

9 racks of 5's in HSI could be tough to find same with any 100's. Jim still has the cinci jack for sale you could get those.

Terrible assumption. CPC is literally the only thing that compares to paulson, and it compares favorably. The biggest criticism you can make of CPC is it's color selection doesn't compare favorably to Paulsons - far fewer colors and generally noticeably less bright. CPC's clay is different than Paulsons, but I'd argue its just as good as contemporary Paulson clay. CPCs come in a variety of molds, and some of them are great. Paulsons basically come in two molds and by FAR it's most common mold, RHC, is a huge disappointment to chippers.
Oh and then, of course, CPCs have a huge variety of customizable options, and you can actually buy chips from them. Paulson, not so much.

The problem with CPC is you will have to wait forever for your set to get made.
Sure. But if he’s looking at any of the recent HUGE Paulson releases, then chip security probably isn’t a concern, so he could consider CPC’s stock sets as well. And even if he’s not interested, that’s fine, but let’s not go around saying CPC can’t compare to Paulson.

Most games in the midwest favor a limit style set, expectation is all fives up to about 800 - 1k, then color.

With you're budget / chip count you'd be better off going with Ceramics, BRPro can handle your order this week and have them to you within 2.5 weeks, once you approve and pay for the design.

Easier to clean
I prefer the feel of 43mm (ceramics) to 39mm Paulson (non leaded).
CPC feel and sound very similar, but there is a color difference. I find CPC vibrant enough.

I'll stay patient. I want a true bright red. Like I had with my old CDI's almost.

I've used my CPC customs as my main set but I still love the feel and sound of Paulsons RHC over CPC. Leaded THC is even butter better of course.
That being said, if you're running 2-5 NL, you don't need many 5s, the 25 will be your workhorse, unless it's super nitty and grindy. In that case you certainly don't need 9 racks. I've been running a 5-5 NL game for a decade now (my currency is anywhere from 1/5 to 1/10 of USD), and they get 10 reds and the rest in 25s. A 100BB rebuy is one barrel of 25s.

Problem with mountains of 5s is that all-ins take much longer to count, not to mention availability, price, etc. Limit yourself to 3 denoms if possible unless they're veterans in live play. In your case you need 1s, 5s, and 25s. One rack of 25s is $2500, so if you have 3-4 racks you should be good - that's $10k. If it's a wild night, you might need a few barrels of 100s.

Agree. Midwest likes thier stacks and stacks of red. But I like have green chips in there to encourage more action and bigger betting!

EVERYONE in this forum has been super helpful, thanks guys! Now I just to land some bright red Indiana Horseshoe Chips! And some Greens! And some blacks! MUHAHAHA

I ultimately didn't like any of the red CPC stock orders...boy do I REGRET selling my CDI chips from the early 2000s. They weren't Paulson, maybe Apache made them or someone that had the new orlean saints logo on it.

No dice. That's like saying Honda doesn't compete with racecars. It's two different products.

And honestly, a good chunk here has moved towards customs over Paulson's, which I am one of. CPC is amazing with what they do, but each different chip has pros and cons.

Honda's dominate CART, Indycar and do a good job at Formula one...

...
OK, It's like saying a Honda CRV doesn't compete with racecars.
I think you understand what his point was, yes?
I certainly don’t. I know he’s not saying a Paulson chip is a race car and a CPC chip is a Honda Civic.
If he’s saying GPI/Paulson operates on a different scale, sure I get that. But I don’t think that was the point of the analogy either.

One month to get a quality set? Yeah Paulsons are what you should buy, not because someone says they are the best, but because they will probably be the easiest to sell later on without losing (much) money on them. Then over time get plenty of samples, figure out what you really like, and if you decide to order custom chips you will have plenty of time to do so.

I'm saying it's apples and oranges. Both have there place, and I'd say a there is a sway of members going custom rather then Paulson due to prices. The statement that "CPC doesn't compare to Paulson's" is off the mark. So my attempt to help is moving me back to trolling everyone into oblivion.

Sooo I've decided my favorite set I'm chasing is the Horseshoe Indiana. I specifically landed on those becuase of the primary red $5's. True red, with the yellow/blue edges. !!! Looking to acquire them! Found some on eBay just yesterday and lucked out with atleast a few, and another member here also sold me some $5! Real good dude. Thx for the help everyone.
