One for the aussies… not sure if everyone been following the news, but Crown casino in Melbourne has just survived the royal commission. Throughout this pandemic they have remained closed to the public (members only I believe). What’s the chances of them replacing their chips?

Maybe an opportunity to pick up some dolphin/BJ chips? And how would we even go about harvesting the obsolete ones?

@xdan

have asked the very same question myself. even flirted with the idea of trying to put together some frankenstein set from the various casinos across Australia harvesting lower denoms with the view to relabel some but ultimately gave up on the "idea".

Happy to share where I got to with it all if it provides any insight.

HAHAHAHA yeah. When I say harvest… I was thinking more buying their obsolete chips if they would be willing to let them go for dirt cheap. Unsure how all this works though!
Australian Casinos destroy chips. Even after rebranding, change of ownership etc, the casino still has to pay out the value of the chips.

They are all appointed by the government with extremely strict Control Acts and Licences aren't they?

Don't expect the chips to make their way out of the casinos.

I’m yet to lay my eyes on the crown casino Paulson chips that were made.
They would be worth harvesting

Im not a fan on the chips they use, except maybe the $5.
The $1 are shite.
The old $2 and $2.50 were cool.
The plastic quarters were cheap and nasty.

Would be intrigued to see what happens after the royal commission.
If it gets sold, it will be rebranded no doubt. Hopefully some nice Paulsons will be made. We can only hope.

For the benefit of most of the members - what’s “The Royal Commission?” Is that good or bad? You said they survived it, but it sounds like a bad thing for them?

A royal commission is basically an independent audit ordered by the Governor General (who is the representative of the one true queen lol)

Crown were doing a whole bunch of dodgy stuff, so the royal commission was ordered. This article gives an overview. One of the outcomes is that Packer is going to have to sell his shares, which is good because he somehow managed to sleep with Miranda Kerr, and I've wanted him to be punished for it ever since. She's in my top 5, so how dare he get there before me.
