Hi all,

As mentioned in a post I made in the general forum, I have been trying to build a CC cash set but now I'm thinking I want to go a bit further and get myself some really nice chips.

I am looking for a cash set with roughly the breakdown as follows, but I am flexible and open to different quantities and/or additional denoms:

$0.25 - 200*
$1 - 250
$5 - 200
$25 - 50ish

I am looking for chips in pretty good condition and am open to Horseshoe casinos, Native Lights, The Roadhouse, Aransas Queen, or any other Paulson (or similar) set in the lower cost range.

I found the President's Day Sale thread from the The Chip Exchange, but I wanted to see if I could score some chips in better condition with this wanted ad first.

I am still a bigtime beginner so I am not really looking for collector's or rare pieces, just a solid set of high quality chips at a reasonable price.

*I understand that fracs are hard to come by, so these are not necessary for me right now. If you have any, that is a huge bonus.
I plan to get some solids or similar chips for the fracs, and they need not be denominated.

If there are any keywords/tags that you all think might help me in this search, please let me know.

Thanks for your time!
I look forward to joining the proverbial ranks!

You put THC in your subject line, and then mentioned three sets that are RHC chips. Do you know the difference?
Maybe you don’t care, but a lot of people do. And there are cheaper ways to learn the difference than by buying racks (which is how I learned.)

TBH the only difference I know of is the orientation of the hat and cane.
Are there other significant differences?

I don't think I really mind either way (at least for now), unless one is more economical than the other

Chip on the left is an RHC. See how the hats and canes are all the way out to the edge of the chip? The inlay is bigger, which creates more space for art.
Chip on the right is THC. See how there’s actually a circle in the clay around the outside, and the hats and canes are inside of that? The inlay is smaller, leaving more exposed clay.

Those are the differences in a nutshell. Collectors seem to prefer THC, so they generally cost more. But many people like RHC just fine.

I am slowly but surely getting more familiar with pricing, but it is something that I am still actively learning by perusing the classified section and past listings.
I have been learning so much since joining, and I can tell I have yet to even begin scratching the surface!

Thank you for these posts! I learn more each day

I certainly do not have a preference for either one of these. My main focus now is acquiring a set at the most reasonable price (i.e. sets in abundance, not rare, particularly collectible, or anything that may drive up the prices).

My outlook may change in the future, but for now I am just looking to dip my toes in the Paulson world at a reasonable price of entry.

I have sets with both these molds. RHC and THC.

I gotta say, the RHC chips edges are prone to flea bites and breakage. Especially more so where the hat meets the corner edge. I have a set of Jacks that have been felted ONE time, and I found 2 Primary $500 with flea bites in this very spot. Many of the used casino single RHCs I have, show breakage in this area.

I'm not a pro in this arena, but I'm gaining experience using the chips, and in comparison, my AS Star stamps set, has been felted numerous times and it shows NO SIGNS of wear. Not a single flea bite. I also bought them slightly used. These are all THC

So there is this difference for me. As well, the orientation of the hats and canes.

Personally, I love to shuffle RHCs over THCs. I do feel THC has a durability advantage over RHC.

That's really helpful , thank you . As a noobie member I was wondering the same thing.

Welcome to the forum.

Here is a pretty good start, I once had this same set, you'll get a great set of chips, get to enjoy both THC and RHC. This set features THC $1s. Add-ons of $5s and $1s are always popping up.

You can go many different directions for custom fracs too!

I can see what you mean with the mold being close to the edge on the RHC chips. I'll keep that in mind in my search, but tbh if that means that RHC's are generally less pricey, then that is ok with me

As for the listing you mentioned, I think that the breakdown is a little bit far from my needs. I posted there in case the seller decides to split.

Thanks for looking out! :)

An Aransas Queen set might fit your needs really well. Those are great bargains for Paulson RHCs.

This is completely preference, but I have found that any more than 100 fracs don't really get put into play. I used to carry more with me but when the group keeps asking to color up I have now reduced to 100 fracs max.

You need more research. You don't sound like you know what you want. You seem like you're buying Paulson for the sake of the name brand. Buy more samples.

BCC Mardi Gras V1 600 chip cash set. New and uncirculated. $999 plus shipping. Absolutely gorgeous chips. Thanks!
200 x $.25
200 x $1.00
200 x $5.00

Check out the Holdempokerchips vendor forum. It looks like this Mardi Gras set is still available.

It's a BCC set. Breakdown is close to what you want. Would just need to scrounge up some $25s elsewhere.

I see nothing wrong with Pipdenny's approach. This is a route that I see many new people follow consistently. Pipdenny just came to the end result a lot more quickly.

It's completely preference though as some prefer ceramics, some prefer plastic chips, but when you're talking clay Paulson creates very high quality chips and isn't just a name brand.

This! I bought these from @Potsie1 and they’re way way way nicer than cheap well used paulsons.

The Mardi Gras look very nice!
I know what Paulsons feel like, but I've never handled a BCC chip. Maybe I'll see if i can find some samples somewhere.

For now I am still on the hunt, especially for fracs, $5's, and $25's
I am happy to update that thanks to @TheB00T I now have my $1's! Native Lights Primaries :D

Thank you!

I would say they (mardi gras v1) feel close to paulson home chip lines such as Casino de Isthmus 05s but are a bit lighter, more textured and of harder composition. A bit chalky and hard to shuffle out of the box. A little dull colors at first but they do look like a million bucks when oiled, that's for sure! I could not be happier with them, but I am a bit biased as I've been wanting to get that set for a long time.

If you're comfortable with trying to mill, you may be able to put together a set of THC solids fairly quickly. Generic roulettes, old home game initialed sets, and even Starbursts (regular and overstamped) are fairly easily acquired in quantity for relatively cheap. However, it can be a very labour-intensive process. But if you can do it yourself, and add some custom labels, then voila, you can have yourself a unique set!

This was pretty much going to be my plan for the fracs. I just need to be patient and look out for a rack or 2 of a color I like, although pretty much any color besides white or red would do.
