BRPRO Ceramics (2 Viewers)

This design hides it better, but, you can tell its off a little.View attachment 1082263
This has always been an issue with ceramics. The more your design has a feature that you can easily compare to the outer edge, the more there is likely to be a problem.

It is always advisable to keep art, especially a circle, a distance away from the edge when designing. The closer the circle in the art is to the edge, the easier it is to spot small inaccuracies in the final print.

You can avoid the extra cost associated with edge alignment if you make a design that does not depend on edge alignment. In my opinion, much too often people design ceramic chips to mimic clay patterns which requires edge alignment.

Manufacturing dimple to me is not very noticeable and has never bothered me.

With ceramic chips you have an unprecendented level of customization possible, including the rolling edge. It would be a shame if you just went and copied a design of an existing chip series.
Paymasters come to mind

I have a few samples coming from BRPro (Tiki and the "custom" samples) just to get a feel for ceramics. I haven't ordered chips since I got some customs about 15-20 years ago (can't remember where I got them, but they were prob run-of-the-mill faux-clays with a sticker). Been cramming over the past few days to catch up on the latest info out there. So far I've found this forum through YouTuber "Hobbyphilic" who spoke highly of the community here.

I also have some samples coming from casinosupply.com. Has anyone ever used them? In the dozens of reviews/posts/videos I've seen I haven't seen their name mentioned once. They claim to use a "ceramic-style" composite, 39mm/10g, edge-to-edge dye-sub printing with edge text, etc. They're coming in at around $0.80/chip list. I've been going back and forth with someone there through email who has been stepping me through the design process, giving me feedback on my images, etc. Pretty timely responses and sending free samples which is cool. My only reservation is that I haven't seen their name come up at all in the poker chip community. (Only reference on PCF is someone who was satisfied with the quality of a deck of cards from there).

Has anyone done custom ceramics with photos? I'm working on putting my dogs' faces onto funny little outfits. A 39mm rendering on my phone looks good (1125 x 1125), but not sure how that translates to a chip. Attached for reference (work in progress).

Lastly, where do you guys start as far as mocking up a design? I'm decent with photo editing (just using iOS/Snapseed) but no clue where to get (or haven't yet thought about how to create) all the cool casino chip style background/border images and fonts etc. that I see in many of your designs.

Appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Casino Supply chips, and am also interested to hear any other input on them. Did they mention price breaks for larger orders?

Still waiting, will post once they arrive. In the meantime I've ordered several other samples and around 50+ actual casino chips, some ceramic, but mostly casino molds (for comparison but mostly nostalgia). I'm realizing this might not be the most appropriate thread to post stuff other than BRPro ceramics so I'll try to only focus on that.

The Tiki Kings came along with the ceramic sample pack and I'm not over the top excited about them. I need more of a sample size to form a fair opinion with respect to other ceramic options out there, but compared to the casino ceramics they feel a tad light and sound a bit more plasticky. They also have a smoother (almost laminated) finish on the edges, where I'd prefer a more "chalky/grainy" feel. For some reason I can't shuffle them as easily as I can clay molds, yet some people say that ceramics are easier to shuffle bc they're smoother.

Anyway, I'm starting to question if I want to get the MOQ 300 chips from casino supply as I'm starting to consider more premium custom "clay" options. I'm now leaning towards just doing a few custom designs with BRPro since their MOQ is only 25. Nothing on casinosupply's website about price breaks but I'll ask in my next exchange.

Casino Supply samples arrived today and first impression is I like them a lot. Will post something more substantial soon. Also, the Tiki Kings have grown on me, and I did a blind feel test with the brpro 39mm sample and a casino ceramic (likely not chipco) and they feel very very similar: in the hand I could not tell the difference but ultimately chose correctly based on some intangible feeling. Quick comparison b/w that and casinosupply is casinosupply feels a tad heavier/more solid, (though weights are stated to be identical) and the texture is a bit kore “grainy”, which I really like so they don’t slide around as much, especially while shuffling. To me they have just a bit more of that “industrial” quality feel.

I got my tournament set done through BR Pro and am very happy with them. Not pictured is the awesome dealer button they did.

Just submitted my first custom sample set after working with Kristil at BRPro for the past month. Super stoked!! (First time using photoshop too so go easy). Also wasn't going heavy for the casino vibe, most are just mainly references to our dogs or "Friends", haha, and an ode to the "Seth's" chip from Boiler Room, which got me into poker 20 years ago. Will post actual chips when they arrive. Also still can't decide which style I like best for the $100, any feedback is highly appreciated.

We had some semi customs made for our poker league. Outstanding service and good quality.

1. Edge alignment turned out great.
2. Visually it’s noticeable, but barely noticeable when shuffling. You really have to think about it if you want to feel the dimple.
3. I’m sure that design will work well. They do a great job and I couldn’t be happier with my set.

These turned out incredible! How hard was it to get exactly what you wanted with relation to the edge printing?
I think that’s the BRPro “King of the River” set, with the semi-custom option to have any text you want on the face. Just pay extra for edge alignment, and they do it all.
Great chips.

1. I went for a design that didn't rely on alignment, and am glad I did. It just frees me from having OCD about by chips
2. The dimple is there, but not distracting. I just consider it part of the chip
3. I think that's a great example - crisp graphics work well.

My "don't need alignment" chips

I bought these second handed and was wondering if these are only sold by BRProPoker?

If so, are these what I would expect from a chip set from them? Textured surfaces and glossy edges?

I like how they are not slippery. Do they get slippery over time? Edges are rounded for accessories and chips set would be squared out?

1. I don’t think it’s necessary, but it does bother some people to not have the edges aligned.

2. Not a issue

Got my samples coming from BR shortly first I seen/heard of the centering issue might be a bit of a dealer breaker for me?

One question I have regarding this how many of the chips are noticeably off center?

I have had the same concerns.

I just got some samples of my custom chips as as well. I would say about 5/8 are off center enough that you can see it if you look close and 3/8 are more obviously off center.

That said, how noticable it is seems to depend a lot on the design. In these card wars samples, the white chip is way more noticably off center than the red chip because there is a solid line near the edge on the white chip and the red chip just has points so it's harder to establish a reference.

The same goes with my custom samples. My white/grey chip is just as off center as the other ones but ut doesn't have the ring around it and had more solid color space between the edges so it being a little off center isn't as easy to see.

I am new to this, but my thinking is more solid colors towards the edges are much better for the ceramics for this reason.

I'm working on new versions and am asking the designer to remove both outside rings and just have a solid color background.

I think with this change the off-center still is a little disappointing, but it probably won't stop the actual purchase.

Also, just for reference, the white card wars chip, which is one of the most noticeable, is about .6mm off center to the best of my measuring ability.

I’ve had the same experience with BR Pro ceramics. Some are off center by a lot and it bothered me so much I went to Tina’s ceramics. Already edge aligned and always centered for cheaper.

I had a great experience with the Br Pro ceramics and my custom design!
