Hi all.

Looking at building a table for a home game and all roads led to PCF. After reading what must be every thread from the last few years it's now time to jump in and move my project forward. What a fantastic resource - many questions already answered but many more new ones raised. Thanks to all who give their time to help everyone, especially us noobs, out :cool

Apparently I'm also going to be building my own custom chip set(s) :whistling: - but that will have to wait until next year I think.

I have a regular weekly pub game (tournie) and some of that crowd also play cash so I'm looking at two separate games - both 8max.

Tournament game:
This will be simple £5/10/20 NLHE STTs - buyin/rebuys dependent on how flush people are feeling. This game is so I can play/socialise with friends who only play NLHE and/or don't fancy the cash game so much.

Cash game:
Currently planning this to be a mirror of our current cash games - dealers choice with no 2 card holdem. All games are pot limit. We play 5/10p blinds with a live 25p staddle and because of the nature of the games - 4/5/6 card omaha, hi-lo, multi-board, courchevel plus a million combinations - pots are rarely small but you can get 6 hours of play for £50 which is usually my budget before I get carried away ;). The table at the end of the night will normally have £500-1k spread around.

To begin with I think I'll get a 500/600 chip set that can cover both tournie & cash - which is how we currently do it - and look at building a custom cash set if the game looks like it has legs.

UK absolutely sucks when it comes to outfitting a home game so thanks again to PCF for providing a platform to help those here that want to try.

Looking forward to getting it all going...

Hey, welcome to PCF, I'm just a little further west along the coast.

@Easylife (I think ) will be near you :)

Good luck with the table build, share pictures when you can.
For the chip set, a lot of folks will advise you to get separate cash and tourney chip sets to keep things secure (incase someone takes some tourney chips and tries to sneak them into the cash game). But if you're like me then only one type of game would be running that night anyway. However, don't let that be a reason you don't buy WAY more chip sets than you need! :D

Welcome to the madness. which pub do you run your game in? I'm based in Hove and have a full HSI cash set and a tonne of samples, will also hopefully have a customised tourney set in the not to distant future if you ever want to get a feel for different chips.

Thanks - hoping to get some input on the table build - especially the choice of playing surface.

Noted about the single set but to begin with I'll need to share across formats. Everyone is trustworthy so I'm not overly concerned wrt security. I'm sure everyone says that until they have an issue but it's a fairly tight knit group. Adding a 5 to a regular T25 set allows cash use in pennies so works nicely.

Looking forward to hosting at my place for a change though.

I don't run that game I'm just a player but The French Horn on a Monday night. That game is just a £5 buyin and it usually fills the 3 tables - sometimes with a wait list - and conforms to the redic £100 prize pool UK has for pub games with any left over monies going towards freerolls at the end of each 12 week season. (It used to be £10 I think but someone squealed about it to the Council a few years ago so it's strictly within the law now) . So it's mostly for the social aspect and bragging rights. We should play cribbage instead as there's a carve-out for that so it can be for unlimited stakes - I guess casinos don't offer that so aren't lobbying against it

I may well take you up on your very generous offer of handling different chips. Our game now has custom ceramics which I really like but getting a hand on other types would be really helpful.

Thanks for the welcome all :)

Played the horn for years and have won the league a couple of times lol, guessing I know you, this is Rodger. Will be playing tonight.

Lol should have spotted that, presume your playing tonight? Can have a chat about what chips I have and bring some samples next week.

Welcome! Whereabouts in Brighton are you?

I studied there and spent a year after uni in my first "real" job living in Hove — is Grubbs still the best burger in town?

Had a burger from Grubbs last week. Still good but not the best lol.
