Hi,

I use to run a 6 to 10 STT.

I bought nice bounties to go along with my WSOP replica set and I can't wait to put those in play.

I'm not used to bounty tourneys and would like to know, for a such à STT, which percentage of the buyin you would assign to the bounty ? I'm thinking between 20% and 30% but would like to know about your experience on this format.

Regarding the structure, if we go for a freeze-out, we used 10000, 15000 or max 20000 as starting chips.

Sometimes we allow 1 re-entry during first hour. But then the starting chips are 5000, 7500 or max 10000.

Should the fact that 1 re-entry is allowed affect the percentage of the bounty ? I don't see why but as I'm experienced with bounties I might miss something...

10% to 20% of the total buy-in amount is most common, but it can be any amount you choose -- including a minimal amount (5% - $5 of a $100 buy-in, or $2 of a $40 buy-in), all the way up to 100% of the buy-in amount (a full bounty tournament, where no prize money is paid ~except~ for the bounty knock-outs). A 50% bounty tournament would split the buy-in amount to 1/2 to the prize pool, and 1/2 to the bounties. It all depends on to what extent you want the bounties to affect strategic play.

Re-buys can be dealt with in several ways:
  • You only lose your bounty chip when completely eliminated from the event
  • You lose your bounty chip whenever busted down to zero chips, and purchase a new bounty chip along with your re-buy stack
Some rules allow players who re-buy to optionally pass on buying another re-buy chip -- but in that case, the player with no bounty chip would not be eligible to collect any when knocking out a player (the eliminated player would retain and cash out his bounty chip). Some events make even the initial bounty chip purchase totally optional, and knockouts are handled the same way.

I run different events using all of those variations (including some that have two levels of bounty chips, one required and one optional), and they all work fine. Again, it all depends on how you desire to affect player strategy.

Thanks for your valuable input.

Regarding the re-entry, I think I will start with the option that gives to the re-entrying player a new bounty chip. That's maybe the easiest and simplest one to start with.

However, to not orient the game too much to a "prime-hunter" game, in case of a re-entry tourney, I think the percentage of the buyin affected to the bounty should be reduced to sth in the range 10-15 % while this percentage would be 15-20 % for a freezout.
