Saw this on Yahoo. I knew Alaska was going to be one of the most booziest states. When I watch Alaska State Police on TV, the Trooper always asks, "have you been drinking?" or "how much have you had to drink?" :D Seems the colder the place, the more people drink.

Sorry... Wisconsin FTW

Milwaukee is the brew capital of the US, and there's more craft breweries here than anywhere. Plus, it's the only state in the country where DUI - 1st offense isn't a felony (that's cuz all the politicians would be kicked out of office after their first DUI arrest). Heck, a few years back, even our Attorney General (State's top cop) got a DUI... While driving a State vehicle.

It's not uncommon to see stories on the local news channel websites reporting on people getting picked up for 7th, 8th, 9th+ offense OWI. It's an absolute joke.

Ya, great point. Highest I've heard of was an 11th offense (shouldn't that guy be in jail or something?).

Also add that the UW Madison, is routinely listed as THE top party school in the country. I've personally witnessed 3-story beer bongs (with 8 tubes), where they load the beer direct from a keg into a hopper on a third story balcony, then each one of the 8 people on the ground open their tube's valve and pound massive amounts of beer... @dumb!

The atmosphere of alcohol is so pervasive here.

Sounds like a hell of a party and something I would have done in college

this map was really difficult for me to understand at first. i just, thought, "man i've lived in GA, AL, CO, NJ and everyone i knew everywhere was getting utterly demolished all the time." then i realized there might have been a corrupting variable in my study...

Portland hipsters seem to take great pride in the city's beer culture.

Here are some fun facts about 2013, updated within the past few weeks.

Looking at the national statistics, some of the highest per capita beer drinking states are not drinking what we might call beer.

Wrongo. Wisconsin has ~90, California has ~380. And by population, Vermont is first -- WI doesn't even rank near the top.

Hell, I can't even name a WI microbrewery that makes a decent ale, unlike Oregon, California, Indiana, and many others -- even tiny Delaware. What in your opinion are the best quality WI micros?

Back in 1994 when Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl, California distributors had to make an emergency call to the Midwest to send back cases of Brandy. It seems that 90% of the brandy made in the Napa Valley was sent to Wisconsin. With so many Badger fans there, they ran out and needed an emergency replenishment. I won't try to justify the idiots with 3+ DWI's because those people are just plain stupid. Once is an accident, twice is an oversight. Three is ignorant.

Wisconsin Breweries

Some notables: Capital Brewery, New Glarus (home of Spotted Cow), Great Dane Brew Pubs, and Ale Asylum (home of Ambergeddon and Hopalicious).

Don't forget the number one reason we're the "BEER STATE"

If that doesn't work, we have the best beer food, brats! :)

Oktoberfest 'nuff said!

Been there, done that. Went to Washington State. except ours didn't have 8 spouts. We only had 4. Be careful if you get matched up with 3 chicks... while it sounds cool, they generally shut their valves off early leaving the vast amount of drinking up to the lonely sucker that got matched up with them.

Not a Wisconsin resident or supporter in any way but Leinenkugel is amazing and better than most if not all things coming out of the West Coast.

Leinies does have some good beer. To bad they are owned by Miller and not a true craft beer. New Glarus is the biggest craft in Wisconsin they just do not ship outside of the state.

Leinies is amazing? Hmmm. Has Leinies ever made an ale?

The Red and the Dark come closest, but I've yet to taste any Leinies brew that impressed me. Nothing with the flavor I taste from, say, Green Flash, Rogue, Anchor Steam, or Mendocino, to name just a few from the west coast.

I tend to think of the booziest state as being whichever state I happen to be in at the moment. ;)

(Yes, that can be read two ways...)

Oh sorry no Leinenkugel doesn't make good Ales. I read the thread as beers in general, their Ales are not worth trying. Their Oktoberfest is some of the best out there right now though.

After the Packers (NFL) are done, there isn't much to do in Wisconsin. :(
NBA basketball isn't a hot sport outside of Milwaukee, hell it isn't a big draw IN Milwaukee.
The Badgers basketball is finally interesting.
No golf.
Only a couple casinos have poker tables, and the quality isn't impressive. I went to Wis. Dells on a weekday and the game was lousy. Too many maniacs playing for any draw. Unless you have a large bankroll to withstand bad suckouts, it was not fun.

This last comment is common in poker, and one of my pet peeves. You should only play in games you are rolled for, and you should want to play in games with crazy chasers putting their money in bad. These are the most profitable games in poker. Change your style and clean up.
