Hi everyone,

I have used @T_Chan and @Racer96 Multi-Life tournament and just put a new spin on it.

I'm always trying to spice up our monthly game and I think I found a way.

It's called a K.W.Y.K. tournament. Keep What You Kill. It's a QUICK (Notice the play on words/letters?) tournament that lasts 2 rounds. Each round is 20 minutes. Blinds are 25/25 and 25/50. Each player starts with 1000 chips. At the end of this mini tournament, you add your stack to your main tournament total.

So far this has worked out quite well for a few reasons.
1) Sometimes in a tournament we get a bad beat and are forced to go home. In this case, stick around because you still have the main event to play.

2) Sometimes we are just not on our game and just need a wake up call. Normally you have to primed and ready to play a tournament, but in this case mistakes are not going to cost you a lot.

3) You have a chance to try new things at the table without knowing that if you blow your stack, you are finish. Time to go.

.. Not sure I fully get it ... Your main tournament is starting with almost everybody having a different stack size, because of playing 2 rounds of another game first? Is this kwik thing part of the main buy-in??
Wouldn't just a rebuy period, where you could both Either rebuy if bust-out, or Surrender your existing stack for the rebuy, accomplish similar goals, without having everyone starting the main tournament with "different" stacks, due to this 2 round kwick thing adding into the starting main stack?
You could also offer a 1/2 stack rebuy at the 1st break too ...

Sounds fun, but never tried it. What is the starting stack of the main tourney? 10k? I think I would only like this if the stack in the pre-tourney is very small compared to the main tourney. Like 1k to 10k. No huge advantages or disadvantages.

Still not sure if I would prefer it compared to a regular tourney with rebuys for the first hour though, but I'm sure I would play it. Sounds pretty fun. (y)

Even in that scenario, some players can/will easily have 30-70% more than others, starting the main ...

Well, extremely unlikely someone will have that much more after only two levels of play if you ask me. I would think that a few players would end up with 10-20% more and maybe one with 30% is the more common result.

So far we have had 2 bust outs. The chip leader from K.W.Y.K. I believe only had 400 above his starting 1k stack. So I think (someone check my math) ~3% more than the starting 15k stack.

So biggest stack had 16400 and smallest had 15k at the start of the main? That's closer to 7-8%, but since the rest of the field would have stacks in between, its not a big deal. Sound solid to me. Almost no point, but just a fun warm-up! I guess you could see a big stack of 17k pretty often though (one double up) , and maybe closer to 20k if someone runs very good, but that still sounds fine.

I voted no for 2 reasons.
First; it seems like in action it's a very complicated extension of the main event. I think a 25/25, 25/50, 25/25 structure pretty bad.

Second; All the advantages could be gained by a rebuy/add on type option.

I like the points made about the cons of this. But rebuy and add ons cost the player.

I think you might be missing the point. The KWYK tournament is free.

Yes the tournament goes 25/25 25/50. But thats one tournament. The second main game is a new game from scratch.

A "doublestack" tourney doesn't cost extra. You get a rebuy chip that can be used any time. Have 2x at the beginning or save and use after you bust out.

I think I'd much rather just have more time in the "main" tournament, rather than hold this kwik thing for only 40 mins before start, , the result just gives a few players, at best, a 500 to 1500 start chip advantage in a 15K tourn.
Even a rebuy or add on would seems an unnecessary alternative, , if you are only planning to get less than 2K anyway ...
Just charge everyone an extra $1.43, and let them add on a 1K chip anytime before the break :) ...
** Or even better, add 15min to your 1st main level, & 10 extra mins to the next 3 levels , & dump the Kwik, Personally,I'd much rather play in that, than the Kwik tourn, + shorter main ...

Nice effort, but the entire thing seems pointless to me. Just start the tournament. Let people get extra chips by playing the game. If you want to reduce variance, allow rebuys, host a cash game after, etc... There is more than one right way to do things, so I'm always open to new ideas. But there's a reason most have never herd of anything like this.
Sorry.
