About the chips:
With the new Bond movie coming out, I thought it would be fun to celebrate with one of the old “Casino Royale” sets sold by Cartamundi back when the movie came out in 2006. This set includes the following breakdown and extra goodies:
  • 175x red $5
  • 175x green $25
  • 75x black $100
  • 75x purple $500
  • 2 decks unused cards (one deck is open)
  • dealer button
  • 5 acrylic racks
The chips are in essentially brand new condition, and have nice textured inlays. They are very heavy, weighing in at about 13.9g/chip. Please see the photos to judge condition for yourself.

About me:
I’ve been chipping for about 9 years, and after ChipTalk, joined PCF early on. I haven’t been active the past few years. If you don’t know me, and would like a character reference, please contact Melissa (liftapint). She’s good people, and I think possibly more well known than any of my other PCF friends here!

Great question! The short answer is no.

I have a few hundred of the newer chips from Apache, too. They have similarities, but are not the same as the chips sold by Cartamundi back in 2006. I strongly suspect they come from different Chinese manufacturers, but I don’t know that for a fact. Here are the differences I noted:
  • The Cartamundi chips fit 20 to a barrel in a Paulson rack. The newer chips are thicker, and fit only 19 chips to a barrel, no matter how hard you squeeze.
  • The Cartamundi chips have a dollar sign “$” in the denomination. My newer chips do not.
  • The Cartamundi chips use a serif font on the denomination. My newer chips use a sans-serif font.
  • The colors of the two are different. My newer chips are overall significantly darker than the Cartamundi chips.
  • On most denominations, the number of edge spots is different. As you can see in my photos, the Cartamundi chips have a spot progression in which the larger the denomination, the larger the number of spots. My newer chips all have the same number of spots - four.
  • Some, but not all, of my newer chips, rather than reading “Casino Royale” on the inlay, read “50 Years James Bond”.
It should also be noted that some of my newer chips do NOT match the photos currently on Apache’s site. That has been a long standing problem for me when purchasing items imported from China (chips, acrylic birdcage carriers, chip boxes, etc.)... you never really know exactly what you’re going to get from one order to the next. If you find something you like in stock, I recommend you get all of it that you want without delay, because the next time you order it might be different.

All that said, I want to make it perfectly clear that I absolutely love doing business with Josh Shore of Apache. He’s first class, and if there’s ever a problem with an order, he always makes it right!

I hope that helps!

*bump* Just a bit more than a day left in the auction, folks.

Sad, but looks like these are going back in the vault. Thanks for your views! Hope all the Bond fans out there enjoy the new movie - No Time to Die - tomorrow!
