Hi everyone. I’d like to thank all of you here for all the help. This community is awesome. Also I reached out to a few of you about some chips here on the site. I’ll make a Decision soon and get back to you all. Probably after I check out this Sunday sale.
So I’ve been in the market for a set of poker chips to replace my Best bet limited poker chips, for a home game I’m starting once a month. Low limit .25/.50 or .50/1 buy ins. I want it to be a friendly game so buy ins will be anywhere from 70.00 to 125.00
just received my Milano sample set. I’m not sure if I like them or not. I’m used to the heavier ( I’m guessing 15g) Best bet limited. The best bet seem to have more grip too. I have not oiled the Milanos yet but I’ll check that out this weekend.

A buddy of mine gave me two sets of poker chips 10-15 years ago. He used to work at a casino. Here is the kicker...I gave away the second set to my dad about 8 years ago. After being on the this site and you tube videos I found out that those poker chips have the top hat and cane. I wonder To myself what’s a top hat and cane poker chip. I do some research and find out that they are Paulsons . Talk about your all time screw ups. Haha. Well at least my Pops has a nice set.

Well I guess my main question is are these Best bet limited poker chips any good?

I am not familiar with them, but they don't look like a bud jones coin inlay to me. Look a lot like the jackpt casino chips that are made in China.

I’d love to see photos of that set you gave to your dad. As for the chips in question, they’re just cheap, slugged, Coin-in-center plastics. Nothing special.

The center logo is a metal if that helps.

yeah I suspect they are like these. Mass produced in china.

there are actual casino coin inlay chips by Bud jones and I think Matsui like this

but they do not feel the same and are not as slick and heavy, but I could be wrong

I’ll get that pic. I know for sure they had a stamp, MB if I remember correctly. They for sure have the top hat and cane. My wife always liked those one better too. My dumb ass back then thought the heavier ones must be better since they weigh more. He’s got them at his cabin which is cool. On our next visit their I’ll get those pics. I’d like to get more info on them.
Thank you.

My first trip to Vegas was in 1999. One of the things I wanted to do in Vegas was to pick up some poker chips so I could play blackjack and craps at home. I picked up a double sided layout at Gamblers General Store. But I was torn between some diamond mold chips at a gift shop in a mall attached to the Stratosphere and some used Paulson chips that were for sale in the Tropicana gift shop. I went back and looked at those Paulson's at least three times. In the end I went with the plastic diamonds because they didn't have any denominations on them and I felt they were more flexible than the Paulson's. Plus they were 'used' and I wanted 'new' chips. I don't even know what casino those used chips were from but definitely high on my list of regrets. In my nightmares I imagine that I turned down something that was super valuable from some torn down '80s Vegas casino.

A cumulative posting of chipper regrets would rival the length of A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu, I'd imagine. No use dwelling on it.

And on the "weight" of chips, it's all about what you prefer. But it is a mistake to equate "heavier" with "better". Otherwise there would be a mass scramble for 13.5g dice and 16g+ brass core chips. I do not begrudge someone's opinions on heavy weight chips, but I doubt it would be the majority opinion here.

FWIW, Best Bet is the company in Brooklyn that created the infamous 16-18 gram "Binyon's" WSOP brass chips, for which they were later hauled into court and punished.

They sold cheap chips, but also sold some decent black aluminum cases.
