My advice is to not to skimp on a quality table. Take a fraction of the $200-$300 you were thinking of and purchase a big neoprene topper that you can use on top of your existing dining table, or some such. Save the rest, and slowly build it up until you can get something of good quality. Maybe you can make a deal with someone nearby who has got the tools and the know-how to build one for you.

If you’re in a rush I’d just buy a cheap table (also secondhand) for now and sell it for the same $ once you find a nicer one. Problem is poker is a niche market so they gouge you on everything and a $300 table you buy online is really only worth $150-$175 most of the time.

I've had my eye on the Barrington 10-player table on walmart.com. Seems pretty well-built and at $179 you kinda can't go wrong.

Or if you are into something a bit more gaudy, with LED lighting, there's the ESPN table for $199:

(edit: also Walmart offers free 2-day shipping on these)
He’s not replacing the felt so I’d strongly suggest avoiding Barrington tables altogether.

I know, but if the rest of the table is of good quality (decent armrest padding, good support in the middle so it doesn't sag when someone leans on it, etc) then it might be worth adding a roll out oval poker mat on top of the existing felt to get better card handling and to cover up the middle hinge seam. Something like this might fit with maybe a little bit of trimming?

I saw this too. Seems fishy that there aren’t any pics of the table unfolded though.
That's typical. Non-pro/hobby sellers are terrible at making listings. Easy fix if you just message them and ask for more pictures. Worst case the full pictures tell you not to waste $100 and best case you save money still and get a table 2x better as a new Barrington

K9dr posted the perfect table for that price range  :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

SERIOUSLY, hold off until you can afford a quality table. Some of the best money I have ever spent in my life was on a custom table (or three). I used to sorta enjoy hosting poker. But I never actually felt giddy about it until I had my custom tables. Night and day difference to me.

@AH77

I'd take something like this for $100 over a Barrington for $150+

Not me. Those are typically crap even when new, and wear out pretty quickly (heavy surface and rail wear, and often sagging or leg screws pulled out of the MDF) -- and most are hard to repair or near-impossible to upgrade. $80+ per used table is no bargain -- I'd guess you might get one half-decent condition table out of the three.

These are the pics he sent back of one of the tables. I would want one without a dealer tray though. Seems somewhat decent for what it is.

I’m hesitant to break the bank on a table because I’m not even sure if I’m going to be able to get a regular game going with my group of friends that play poker. Right now, I’m taking the “if you build it, they will come” approach.

Yeah I was/am the same way. No need to drop $500+ on a table until I get a recurring solid game going.

I don’t know about Dave’s experience with them and I’ve never owned one but I know a few who do have them and I’d say they’re all still worth $100. Maybe ask if any issues Dave mentioned are apparent and if they say no, check them out in person?

Received some better pics of the table. He agreed to sell it to me at $200 as is or to fix the felt for me and sell it for more. What do you guys think?

For $200, snag it. Worst case it costs you $100 to replace both the felt and the legs, but it looks totally playable as-is.

If it’s under $100 to fix the felt I would pay but that’s just me. Not sure if the stains would have an affect on play.

I’m thinking of offering $275 for the table + having it refelted. Does this seem reasonable? The table itself seems to be pretty high quality from what I can tell so I’m hoping this turns out to be a good find.
