Hello All—I’ve gone through the process over the last 6 months of going back and forth on if and what kind of set I want to invest it. I run 2-3x a week .25/50 cash game, with a $40 min buy and a $150 max buy. After a couple hours the game plays pretty large as most people are fairly deep. Right now we use some decent China Clays I got a couple years back, and I’ve gone back and forth about wanting to upgrade.

I considered designing and buying my own set CPC, but ultimately I decided I didn’t want to mostly because custom design isn’t super important to me. Main things I’m looking for are a relatively clean looking chip, and availability, as well as relative affordability. I understand these will not be cheap.

The chip designs I really like are stuff like the Aurora Stars and Empress Stars, but the limited availability of fracs and general very high price tag puts them beyond me. I really really love the Flamingos—the design, decent price—I am a sucker for a good solid chip.

I guess my question is what would you recommend for a lower stakes clay set? I’m looking for probably 200x $.25, 200-300x $1, and 100-200x $5. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Fracs tend to be most expensive part of these sets as they are often snappers or other.

You can find some good buys on 1 & 5s. There's also the option to label other chips, though that can get expensive.

Realistically what is your per chip or total budget?

Probably don't need that many fracs. 100-120 should suffice a single table

The fracs are going to be an issue. The fantasy set fracs are very expensive and casinos don't make them anymore.

If you want Paulsons you will likely have to pick a chip for the frac and relabel. Or just do solids with no denomination.

Have you considered getting live chips for your $1's? Aurora Star and Empress Star 5's?

The other option could potentially be to get in on one of the group buys for china clay or ceramics.

Other thing is you need to figure out your 'bank' the set you proposed isn't $1500, that's around 10 buyins. You can always add a few barrels of 25s or more $5, but this needs to be considered as well

The cheapest, and I think the most reasonable option is to find the 1s and 5s you like and use THC solids as a frac, As is.

Later you can have them milled and a label made if you want, but a couple racks of a cool color solid starburst is a perfect .25 chip.

Easy to resell, not too expensive, easy to find.

I spent 10 years playing with Paulson non-denominated solids, it just works.

Or you can also over-label any chip you want to make a frac, @Gear makes sticker that just go on top of existing labels for a hassle free frac.
