Not Mine Best low budget demoninated chip deal? (1 Viewer)

You aren’t going to convince anyone that chuck is better than filet mignon, but whatever floats your boat
When in comes to steak, there are some good options in the middle. I have a tougher time with chips though. Look at China clays that sell for 40 cents apiece - as far as I’m concerned, those are still plastic chips with a lot of flaws. So I think I’d probably rather these things for 6 cents apiece than China clays for 40 cents apiece. But at the end of the day, I’m gonna shell out the cash for real clay chips, so maybe my opinion doesn’t matter.

I used to play in a lot of firehouse/VFW/Elks Club/Moose Lodge games, and thus have handled more than my share of Dice/Suited and other bargain chips. The one thing I would recommend is to avoid cheap chip sets which are heavily weighted to make them seem “fancier.” These kill my hands after an hour or two of OCD riffling.

I got a set of 500 of these as a gift many years ago. The gifter heard I liked poker and saw my 'plain' chips (Paulson solids). Feeling obligated and awkward, I played one game with them and then gave them away to one of my other players. They're definitely better than playing cash instead of chips, but they're not allowed on my table anymore.

I couldn't have stacks of more than 10 with the ceiling fan on lol.

I had a work colleague who, with the best of intentions, wanted to "gift" me with a big set of dice chips because she knew I ran casino tournaments. I thanked her profusely, but said that I could not accept them as I could not risk the security of the game with mass-produced chips that could be brought in surreptitiously. She was satisfied with my answer, and I breathed a sigh of relief out of earshot.

(SNOB ALERT: And I didn't want them touching my custom ceramics or my custom felted tables.)

It definitely sounds like they came out with an improved updated version of these chips, because I'm fairly confident I could stack the newest ones 300 high with a little effort. Was able to manage 150 barely even trying.

Yes, clearly a set such as this has no business being used for any game where any amount of money is involved that actually matters. Maybe for a super micro cash game like 5c 10c, or a really cheap buyin tourney. Those were my target use cases for this set, and I seriously doubt anyone who would be playing those games would bother to buy the same chips to get one over on anyone. Mostly very low frequency, very low buyin, very casual players, but still having enough utility (such as denoms) to be usable by even complete noobs.

I would never recommend a set like this be used by a group of seasoned players. I think I failed to properly communicate this in my OP and that was my fault. There was no ill intent, and I apologize for any confusion my lack of detail caused for people.
