I'm looking to buy some felt that I can use for poker nights. I just want a felt table cloth that I can throw over my dining room table. I would like it to be high-quality poker felt that doesn't fray. Any ideas on what type to get and where to get it? Thank you.

Get a cloth-covered neoprene table topper. Lays flat on your dining room table, provides adequate padding underneath, won't move, and rolls up for storage. Available in either oval or round, depending on your table dimensions, and usually in different colors (red, blue, green, black). Less than $40.

Places like discountcasinogear sell 'em -- google 'neoprene poker table topper'.

Same concept as a topper, but the padding is not as thick. Can also get pretty pricey. Plus, no betting line. :)

I have used the XL racetrack DXL poker hoody for a second table for several years, it has been great.
I bought one with the player positions, so in a sense there is a betting line.

This looks super nice, thanks. The only thing is that my table is quite a bit wider than 35 inches. Have you heard of anyone making these in custom sizes?

Check with @Tommy - he was looking into getting custom PCF mats made at one time. I did a little research back then, and you can get custom sizes made at several wholesale dealers -- but the minimums killed the idea.

Everyone I contacted had minimums of 100. Can't remember the prices.

I've got several of the neoprene toppers, a poker hoody, and a couple of neoprene pieces that I put under the toppers. Here's my experience.

Toppers are good, do have a betting line, and are very easy to roll up and take with you. They are washable, although it's a bit of trouble, but I probably only wash them after about 25 or so uses. I've paid between $25-40 for each of the ones I have.

The hoody is nice, but it doesn't work for me as advertised. I got it for an 8 ft oval table top and just can't get it to fit right when I try to cinch it. So, I put a non-slip carpet pad underneath. It keeps the hoody from slipping when I lay it flat. It's a nice surface, and mine anyway is thicker than the toppers. It's a workable solution for me. I think I paid around $150, but don't recall.

I got two neoprene pads, in black, to fit over our 94"x42" dining table and our 82"x42" kitchen table. They are 2 mm thick. I put a topper directly on that. It makes for a very nice padded surface and keeps my wife's tables from getting scratched up (thereby preserving my life). I put a strip of Velcro on the bottom of one end, and a strip of Velcro on a 5 ft dowel rod so I can roll it up and store it in the closet. After I've rolled it, I use 3 Velcro strips to keep it from unrolling. Those were about $100 each.

The hoody is nice, even with my makeshift solution, but if I had it to do over again, I'd get another neoprene pad with a topper.

BG, reading your post, did you cover a topper with some type of felt or speed cloth? I've thought of doing that, but wasn't sure how it would work. If you tried that, I'd love to know how it worked. Or maybe you meant the upside of the topper is cloth-like.

^ This. Neoprene designed for poker toppers have nylon cloth applied on one side, which works remarkably well for card slide. I just wipe mine down every so often if it starts looking dirty.

I also roll it up and store it in a camping chair carry bag (free with purchase of $8 walmart camping chair).

Mine came with a bag. The cards do slide nicely on them. I haven't tried just wiping. It's got to be easier than washing.

I forgot to mention that before putting the toppers, pads, and hoody away, I brush them with a pool table brush.

Thanks for your detailed post -- this was very helpful!

In a different direction, I have a table that uses moleskin.

It has fur on the back that provides padding without being "fluffy" (chips stack high without wobble), and the surface is extremely durable and washable. It provides good card glide. It is an upholstery fabric, so it usually comes on a bolt 54" wide. It has a better feel to the touch than neoprene or speedcloth.

Baize cloth. Am I alone in having heard gaming tables called 'the baize' or 'baize field'?

At first, I thought it was a color name, such as forest or Kelly green. This type of cloth is traditionally used on casino tables as well as billiards tables.
